New On Resy: EartH Kitchen, Monty’s Deli, Clerkenwell Grind And More

Everything’s better in Marylebone—even the neighbourhood Italian. The proof’s in the pudding at Bernardi’s, a beautifully appointed restaurant on Seymour Street that incorporates a stunning dining room, subterranean bar for nightcaps, and a brunch-worthy outdoor terrace on one of the area’s brightest corners. Start with cicchetti before moving onto superb handmade pasta or mains (get the veal T-bone with cavolo nero, or cod with crab bisque), washed down with one of the bar’s legendary negronis.

Perhaps the quintessential 21st-century cafe, Grind’s loyal following was built on taking the best of each element—bar, cafe, and restaurant—and melding them seamlessly into a single establishment. Their restaurant in Clerkenwell is an ideal space for all-day drop ins—there’s fast wi-fi and superb coffee during the day, espresso martinis at night, and a menu that transitions effortlessly from eggs and cold-pressed juice to steak frites and Mediterranean-inflected sharing plates.

There’s no way to be subtle about this: Monty’s makes easily one of the best sandwiches in London. Named for owner Mark Ogus’s grandfather, this Hoxton restaurant is one of the cosiest places to settle in on a cold night, in no small part due to the superbly-executed menu of Jewish comfort classics—the latkes and matzo ball soup are essential, and the lox plate is superb. Pride of place goes to the classic Reuben though, which features melt-in-the-mouth salt beef to make adults cry.

Just across from Greenwich Market, Grind’s Greenwich space features a bright, verdant conservatory where diners can sip cocktails and enjoy a menu that spans weekend brunch, dinner and everything in between. The attention to detail we’ve come to expect from Grind’s cafes and all-day dining spaces is present: pretty tiles, flashes of neon, and plush banquettes you’ll find it difficult to tear yourself away from.

One of the season’s most anticipated new openings, EartH Kitchen takes pride of place within EartH, an ambitious new arts space within Hackney’s former Savoy Cinema. Chef Chris Gillard brings several years experience as St. John’s executive chef to the fore: as well as hearty, seasonal fare like grilled mackerel with beetroot or slow-roast lamb with pickled raisins and mint, expect traditional British puds and a host of live acts to accompany dinner at the weekends.

Exmouth Market’s appeal on a warm day is plain to see, and it’s one bolstered by the arrival of Grind’s coffees, cocktails, and all-day menu of small plates and easy brunch dishes. Linger awhile and people watch outside with a negroni or affogato, or head inside to settle into one of the restaurant’s pastel-adorned nooks for a buttermilk fried chicken sandwich or a round of prosecco or martinis.
