Resy and Mission Chinese Food Team Up To Present Secret Special with Danny Bowien & Friends

Dinners Kick Off September 9th at Mission Chinese Food Bushwick and Continue Through March

NEW YORK (August 23, 2019) — No chef in recent memory has mashed up food, art and culture like Danny Bowien, the creative genius behind Mission Chinese Food, his unconventional Chinese Sichuan Fusion restaurants on Manhattan’s Lower East Side and in Bushwick, Brooklyn. What started as a pop-up in San Francisco later took NYC by storm, and today Mission Chinese Food is a beacon of rule-breaking, industry-crossing, multi-cultural cooking at its best. On the heels of his month long collaboration with AriZona Iced Tea, Danny Bowien continues to look beyond the culinary world for inspiration. 

For Bowien’s next endeavor, he teams up with reservations platform Resy for Secret Special with Danny Bowien & Friends. The six-dinner series kicks off September 9th at Mission Chinese Food Bushwick and pairs artists, musicians, models, designers, and cultural influencers of all kinds together, to see what ideas are born when a chef collaborates with the best creative minds, and most relevant voices of the times. *Full Series Lineup below.  

With Bowien’s culinary guidance, his friends from various artistic realms will conceptualize special dishes and present them at monthly dinner parties alongside Mission Chinese Food staples. Points of inspiration may be a favorite childhood dish, an ingredient, a color, a dietary restriction, a visual reference, but really… who knows! Post-event, the dishes will live on as “secret specials” at Mission Chinese Food’s Brooklyn location for the remainder of the month.

The first Secret Special dinner – taking place during New York City Fashion Week – features contemporary artist Carly Mark and Guyanese, non-binary model Richie Shazam Khan. Each collaborator will dream up a signature dish/art piece, and Bowien will develop it in his kitchen/studio. Guests at the dinners will hear about the creative process from each artist and be the first to try the inspired dishes. 

“Between living in San Francisco and New York, I’m fortunate to have a wildly talented group of artistic friends that keep me connected to my love of art, music, and fashion. Food is something we all share and connect through, even though it isn’t their medium as it is mine. I’ve had the idea for this series – collaborating with artists to express themselves through food – for a while, and Resy’s proven innovation and creativity when it comes to events made them the perfect partner,” says Danny Bowien, Chef + Owner of Mission Chinese Food.

Tickets for Secret Special with Danny Bowien & Friends are $95 and include food, beverages and service. Each night will be a multi-course feast, beginning with cocktails at 7 PM, and seating is communal.
