New On Resy: Austin’s Newest Restaurant Openings

This new coastal Mediterranean spot offers respite from the nearby buzzing Barton Springs road. The menu is meant for sharing, so grab a group who isn’t shy about sharing items like wood-fired pitas with your dip of choice, the cauliflower shawarma, and tuna tartare. The entrees are substantial, with options like the butcher steak with chimichurri or whole branzino that’s roasted in their hearth. If visiting Barton Springs Pool nearby, we’d recommend planning your visit to Oria around a time when you definitely have shoes and a shirt to match the upscale energy of the space. 

This longtime local sushi legend has had a few different locations in Austin history, but their current one in West Campus is nicely hidden from the chaos. The space is casual enough for a weeknight meal and the food is impressive enough to take your parents, with favorites like tuna tataki, grilled escolar skewers, and baked avocado with spicy mayo. Choose from a lengthy list of nigiri, rolls, and hand rolls to build your ideal sushi experience. 

If you’ve been to Estancia at the arboretum, you already know about the gauchos, the premium cuts of meat, and a pretty major salad bar. The second location is now open in Leander with the same lively environment for date nights, family meals, and big group outings. You can get the full churrasco experience to sample all of the meats, salad bar, and sides or order à la carte if you want to focus your meal a bit, especially on non-meat items which are also worth saving room for.  

This new spot — “zin-zoon-zan” — comes from the deep North Loop roots of Fonda San Miguel. While Fonda is known for dinner and cocktails, Tzintzuntzan serves regional Mexican breakfast dishes like Huevos Motulenos served on a crispy corn tortilla with ham, plantains, and fresh ranchera salsa. You can also get coffee, agua frescas, and cocktails if that’s what you’re after. If you can, claim space in the private courtyard, and pop over to their take-out window for coffee and pastries like vanilla concha and mole poblano biscuits with jam and butter.  

There’s another hot spot from the team at Guy + Larry restaurant group (of VanHorn’s and Bill’s Oyster) and this time it’s French. This moody, upscale dining room with a bar and an open kitchen is a special-occasion kind of spot meant for drinking an ice cold Vesper or trying a French bottle of wine from a region you’ve never even heard of. The menu is substantial with its offerings like comte popovers, short ribs, and dover sole. Save room for the tableside soufflé for one last big meal moment.  

Located below an apartment complex on South Lamar, this upscale Italian spot serves handmade pastas with ingredients from local farms. Like their other restaurant Cedro Scratch Italian & Wine Bar, you can count on hearty and creative plates that make for a romantic dinner. And though they are most known for their pastas, we highly recommend taking advantage of the happy hour deals and saving room for dessert.
