Chris' Pick:

When the weather starts to turn chilly, there’s nothing better than digging out warmer clothes to bundle up and enjoy some Mediterranean food in the courtyard at Vinea.

This month …

There’s a regional exploration of Indian cuisine, an inspired Mediterranean kitchen, and a reimagined version of a French Quarter favorite that has recently reopened after a bar expansion and dining room update.

New opening!

The latest project from Sujith Varghese, who brought Spice Palette Indian Cuisine to Mount Pleasant, Rivayat focuses on seafood prepared in the style of his hometown of Kerala on the southern coast of India. The kitchen’s use of deeply aromatic spices and tandoori cooking also extends to chicken, lamb, and vegetable options on the menu. The food launched Rivayat straight onto the Charleston Hit List within a month of opening.

Spice Palette Indian Cuisine Mount Pleasant

map

Before Rivayat Creative Indian, Sujith Varghese brought his brand of contemporary Indian cuisine to this modest strip mall restaurant in Mount Pleasant. The lengthy and varied menu features recipes primarily from Southern India, and the number of options can feel a bit overwhelming — take advantage of the “Thali Lunch” to help you decide. Thali is Hindi for “large plate” and represents a traditional dining experience of several dishes served together on a single platter. It’s like a buffet without the work!
