The matches may be the main event, but where you eat is part of the experience. To help you make the most of L.A. during this summer of soccer, Amex and Resy tapped actor Josh Hutcherson to share his list of local spots you should make a point of visiting.

Sqirl Virgil Village

Crispy rice bowl, ricotta toast, and orange blossom espresso tonic at Sqirl.
If you’re looking for a spot to kick off your game day …

“I love coming to Sqirl for breakfast or brunch. It’s a great spot, connecting Silver Lake to Koreatown to Downtown. You can get anything on the menu and it’s tasty. They’re known for their jams: apricot, blueberry, mixed berry, rhubarb. You can catch me here all the time.”

What Josh recommends: ricotta toast with “all the jams”, crispy rice salad with the works, orange blossom espresso tonic.

Tacos Delta Silver Lake

If you’re on the move …

Tacos Delta. Classic. One of my absolute favorite taco spots in Los Angeles. I first discovered this spot walking by it. I was like, I gotta try that one day. And then I tried it one day and never looked back. A good taco is just the right juiciness of the meat, and the al pastor is seasoned and cooked to perfection. It’s also a great spot to sit back and people watch. In Silver Lake, a lot of super cool people with wild styles walk around and you get a cool glimpse into the East Side life.”

What Josh recommends: horchata and al pastor tacos.

Vandell Los Feliz

If you want to celebrate a win …

“My buddy Zach put me on to this place, and now I’m putting you on. Vandell’s got a great atmosphere, it’s usually very bustling. It’s got the best cocktails in town. The food is absolutely off the charts. And they have a drink that’s called the Smoked Tomato. Where else are you gonna get a Smoked Tomato?”

What Josh recommends: grab a friend and split a burger, the crudo, and fries. Order a mezcal Negroni.

If you’re looking for something more intimate …

Kenbey is just fantastic. They have omakase options, and they bring you whatever the chef is making that day. They have great lunch specials. It’s mine and my girlfriend’s go-to place, and we always sit in the same little corner seat.”

What Josh recommends: the bento box.

More of Josh’s Local Favorites

  • Dive and dance: Josh appreciates a good bar (but is partial to dive bars in particular). Josh’s criteria for a good dive bar includes “a fun environment, maybe a pool table, lowkey lighting, and a sexy vibe.” A couple that fit the bill include Ye Rustic Inn and Thirsty Crow. For a nice dancing scene, he vouches for The Silverlake Lounge, Zebulon, and Los Globos.
  • Something sweet: Josh recommends Salt & Straw for their flavors that “sound wild but work,” like their blue cheese and olive oil scoop. He also mentioned that “they do limited little runs of different flavor worlds,” calling out their run of childhood cereal brands as ice cream flavors.
  • Grab and go: When it comes to getting the true local experience, Josh insists on a taco crawl. “Just go and choose a neighborhood and roam around the streets and grab a taco from each spot. One of my favorites is on the corner of Hyperion and Rowena.”
  • Honorable mentions: As for other spots, Josh called out Tsubaki and Bar Stella. “Outside of Japan, Silver Lake has some of the best Japanese food,” Josh mentioned, placing special emphasis on Tsubaki’s finessed Japanese cuisine.
