The Charleston Restaurants We Loved in January

By

If there’s one thing you must know about the people who work at Resy, it’s that we genuinely love restaurants …

This month, Team Resy kicked off 2025 by happily over ordering at a fantastic barbecue spot, waiting an hour for paella (worth it), and getting our fill of oysters in myriad form (‘tis the season after all).

You know they’re doing it right…

… when the paella takes almost an hour to make. Such is the case at Estadio, where we started off with the Sevillana gin and tonic (a perfect mix between an Aperol spritz and a G&T), before ordering tapas for the table — we shared the pan con tomate, brussels sprouts, truffled Spanish tortilla, patatas bravas, and goat cheese with toasted bread. We all equally agreed that it was the pan con tomate that stood out the most: so simple, yet to die for. It was the best thing we ate.

I was so excited we over ordered…

… at King BBQ. I loved the five-spice rotisserie chicken and the Chinese barbecue spare ribs. Can’t wait to go back and try more of the menu.

On a weekend visit with my family…

… I was lucky enough to get a prime-time table for six at Vern’s. We all loved the ambiance, hospitality, and that every dish was pretty unique (plus the fact that everything could easily be shared, so we could order a bunch of dishes). A few favorites were the charred sourdough with allium butter, the escargots with tarragon and Gruyère, and the testaroli (a pasta) with oyster mushrooms and truffle.

Oyster season is back…

… and thank god, because Pearlz has one of the best happy hours in town to enjoy a dozen oysters alongside a glass of Champagne. What more could you ask for?

I was so excited to finally dine out at…

Slightly North of Broad after wanting to try it for years now. We started with the smoked salmon small plate, which had crema on top as well as these thin, crispy potatoes that made for such a delicious combo. For our mains, I got the barbecued tuna, which was topped with these amazing crispy oysters, while my friend got the roasted duck, which came with brussels sprouts (apparently, they were the best, and I’m still hearing about them). Overall, it was such a great experience.

For a special night out or just reconnecting with friends…

Slightly North of Broad (aka S.N.O.B.) is the place to be. It’s one of my favorite spots in Charleston. They’ve got amazing classics like the beef carpaccio and roasted duck breast, and while the food is fantastic, the service is even better.

My favorite beer at…

Edmund’s Oast has got to be the coconut lime sour. This, along with the smoky Caesar salad is such a good combo for a light dinner. The food here is always a go-to.
