Este Named One of the Best New Restaurants in America

By

Austin is front and center in this year’s ranking of America’s Best New Restaurants by the Robb Report.

Este, the stellar sequel to Suerte from chef Fermín Nuñez and restaurateur Sam Hellman-Mass, was named the country’s number two top newcomer.

At Este, the name of the game is seafood, as the crew channels their inimitable Austin style to explore the coastal regions of Mexico, particularly Baja, Sinaloa, Nayarit, and Jalisco. The Robb Report specifically calls out “some of the best tortillas you’ll find anywhere” and anoints Nuñez as “one of America’s foremost practitioners of modern Mexican cuisine.”

It’s the latest excellent review for Este, on the heels of the Austin Chronicle dubbing it “arguably the hottest dining ticket on Austin’s Eastside” and the Statesman proclaiming it “one of Austin’s best seafood and Mexican restaurants.”

For this particular new best restaurant list, Este is honored alongside a host of blockbuster newcomers also earning national attention, including San Francisco’s Copra, Houston’s Navy Blue, and Portland’s Kann. Read the full Robb Report story — and the rest of the list — right here.
