The restaurant industry is tough for anyone with long hours, short breaks, and fast-paced, physically demanding working conditions.

Women play a significant role in this field – according to the US Department Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), 61% of adult women have worked in a restaurant at some point in their life. Filling jobs from chefs and owners to servers and managers, women are slowly making their mark in what’s been typically a male-dominated industry. Women have an ownership role in half of the country’s restaurants; 46% are in management positions. For women in food, the future looks bright.

So, we’re celebrating the restaurants, and the women behind them, who shape Seattle’s vibrant dining scene. These women know how to hustle and are changing the future of hospitality, one dish at a time.
