Every visit to River Twice feels distinct, as wife-and-husband team Amanda and Randy Rucker continue shaping one of the city’s most exciting tasting menu experiences. The dishes change often, but their signature approach remains: a warm, welcoming dining room with top notch service and a hyper-seasonal four-course menu ($85) that showcases the best ingredients of the moment.

Philly isn’t exactly a pub-heavy town, but Bridget Foy’s brings that vibe effortlessly. Opened by a husband and wife in 1978, and now run by their daughter and the restaurant’s namesake, this South Street staple glows year-round with string lights and even keeps a heated patio through winter. Come for the easygoing feel; stay for the Wisconsin cheese curds, chicken parmesan, and braised short ribs.

With its glowing chandeliers and dark wood furnishings, Rex at the Royal is a theatrical setting for chef Angie Brown’s Southern-inspired cuisine, which will warm your soul at this time of year: Nashville hot fried oysters, smoked turkey collard greens, mac-and-cheese, and pot pie. The list of comfort food goes on.

At its core, a clubhouse is the epitome of cozy, and we love Middle Child Clubhouse as a casual yet chef-driven neighborhood hangout in Fishtown. Opt for a $12 cheeseburger, latkes, broiled oysters, or a chicken Milanese that’s easy to share. Or all four. Just don’t miss the cocktails and a game of pool.

When the snow is falling, is there anything better than sitting in a buzzy bistro with pumpkin, sweet potato, and lobster soup or a 10-day dry-aged duck meant for sharing? That’s the kind of thing that makes chef Christopher Kearse’s modern French spot so special, especially at this time of year.

Wm. Mulherin’s Sons might be the perfect weekend night restaurant, especially once the temperature drops. Its industrial aesthetic – dark wood, exposed brick, a fireplace lounge, and gold accents – is decidedly sexy, and the kitchen is still serving some of the wood-fired best pizza and pasta in town.

Gabriella’s Vietnam is where you can eat the foods that owners Chris and Thanh Nguyen grew up with in Vietnam. Start off with the water fern dumplings in individual dishes, and then move to the shaken beef (featuring marinated filet mignon) and sweet-sour hot pot soup with vermicelli.

A nice glass of wine from Chester County’s own Wayvine Vineyards. A nice plate of pasta (even gluten-free pasta!) cooked by chef Greg Walker. A lovely night out on the town in one of the city’s most buzzworthy spots. Any questions?

If the name doesn’t give it away, there’s a lot of fire in this kitchen. Open flames kiss and char just about everything, from vegetables to a massive beef shin – a hunk of meat slathered in tomatillo salsa that you shred off the bone and eat in tortillas. Even the Old Fashioned is made with coal-infused bourbon, and we’re not mad at it. It is cozy season, after all.

There’s a reason it’s called Bar Hygge. This place nails the Danish-cozy vibe, serving upscale bar food in an easygoing, warmly lit space. Think rich wood tones and a dozen shareable boards – cheese, pretzel bites, crispy brussels, chicken liver mousse on toast, and more.

Pasta does indeed shine at Cry Baby Pasta, where simple yet exquisite bowls of the house-made stuff are sauced up with everything from decadent rigatoni and smoked chicken in vodka sauce to spaghetti with pomodoro to fancy mafaldine bolognese. It’s red sauce season.

This clubby, recently revived South Philly institution is members-only – but joining is easy, online or in person. The real draw is getting access to Top Chef alum Eddie Konrad’s small, tightly edited menu of ever-changing specials. Another perk: part of your membership fee goes toward supporting local charitable causes.

Perhaps the coziest restaurant to open in recent memory, Sergeantsville Inn is exactly what you picture: a stone building in a small countryside town, fireplaces glowing, an intimate bar, and dishes sending up steam in the candlelight. The dim dining rooms here offer just the right amount of privacy – perfect for a date or a snug group dinner.
