1. Bunny Bunny
Eastern Market
Nine months into its run as a regional Chinese takeout joint, Jennifer Jackson & Justin Tootla’s Gratiot Avenue restaurant is in the midst of a rebirth. Now a newly minted non-profit, Bunny Bunny is welcoming diners inside for the first time, with an updated menu and identity that better reflect Tootla’s northern Indian heritage and Jackson’s upbringing in the American South.
Think: wok-fried tandoori chicken with a tamarind-soaked smokiness redolent of Southern barbecue, or cold-marinated Hama Hama clams dolloped with vadouvan yogurt. Big Girl, the Sunday-only burger pop-up inside Bunny Bunny will thankfully remain unchanged.
