New on Resy: Arlo Grey, Gin Bar, Ramen Tatsu-Ya, and More

When “Top Chef” winner Kristen Kish first announced the opening of her restaurant in the lobby of the downtown Line Hotel, it was immediately clear that this would become one of the city’s most coveted reservations to get — and the restaurant has lived up to the hype. The prime location and the lakeside patio probably helped, but it’s Kish’s seasonal menus — with French, Italian, and Central Texas influences — and Arlo Grey’s sophisticated-yet-casual vibes that keep diners coming back night after night.

A visit here is almost a guarantee of satisfaction, between the understated elegance and consistently high-quality American fare. Burgers and steaks share the playing field — with excellent versions of both — but guests who opt for a more vegetable-forward meal certainly won’t leave disappointed. Come for the barrel-aged Manhattan, and stay for the excellent service. Pro tip: Speaking of vegetables, don’t pass up the grilled artichoke starter.

The original location of Austin’s first ramen empire has never really waned in popularity for a reason, with an ever-present line as long today as when they first opened. Diners adore the ramen, which generally starts with a rich, meaty pork bone tonkotsu broth — offered as shio, shoyu, miso, and spicy miso options — although those in search of something a bit lighter can still enjoy the chicken and vegetarian versions, too.

At the southernmost outpost of all of the Ramen Tatsu-Ya locations you’ll be able to enjoy the same excellent bowls of ramen, albeit in a slightly larger space. Take your pick among the many tonkotsu broths, the Ol’ Skool chicken-based ramen, or brothless options. Any which way, you’re leaving with a stomach full of noodles, a big grin on your face, and probably something spilled on your favorite T-shirt.

This aptly named hotel bar serves gin — lots of it. Where else can you try more than 90 varieties from all over the world? Whether you choose to pair your gin of choice with one of the many tonics on deck, or opt for a signature martini, be sure to do so while you take in those views from the patio.

Residents of North Austin no longer need to make the drive down to Barton Springs for a serving of Juliet’s 17-layer lasagna, as they’ve added a second location. This new space, located in a shopping mall in the Arboretum, features the same upscale-casual vibe, as well as most of the same Italian-American dishes that Austin locals have come to know and love.

And with their fine-tuned takes on classic pub fare, that means you’re also never too far away from some excellent Fat Tire fish and chips or baby-back ribs.
