Comedor, Vámonos, Mum Foods, Now on the Resy Hit List

Because this modern, Mexican restaurant is easily one of the most hotly-anticipated openings of the year. Chefs Gabe Erales (previously of Dai Due Taqueria) and chef Daniela Vasquez (of Mexico City’s culinary scene) are in the kitchen of this new creation from Uchi’s Philip Speer and Garage’s William Ball and Conor Oman. Architect Tom Kundig designed the striking indoor-outdoor space. If that’s not a dream team, what is?

Because this joint isn’t just your typical Tex-Mex. Occupying the old Bullfight space, Vámonos serves what they’re calling ranch-style Tex-Mex. Of particular note is the oak-grilled section of the menu, which offers Gulf seafood and 44 Farms steaks seared and served with fluffy tortillas. Don’t sleep on the tequila list either: it’s a deep bench.

Because it’s time to get your pastrami fix. Farmers’ market fave Mum Foods has opened a brick-n-mortar sandwich shop in the old Elaine’s space—part one of the revamp of the Eastside Cafe property. Serving the pastrami you know and love alongside new faves (quiche! pimento cheese! soup!), Mum Foods has a lovely patio where you can sit and enjoy the Texas spring. Bonus: BYOB.

Because it’s Kerbey Lane, but healthier. This new restaurant from the folks behind one of Austin’s favorite diners gets into the fresh-and-light game, serving grain bowls, sandwiches, and more. There’s also a juice menu, with optional booze upgrades; add a shot for a fresh-squeezed cocktail.

Because Austin needs more wine bars, and it’s got a tiny gem in Apt 115. Serving wines from small producers, Apt 115 has plenty of natural, organic, and bio-dynamic wines to explore, and a charcuterie board to satiate your hunger. They’ll serve you a glass from any bottle on their list (if the bottle costs over $100, they’ll ask you to buy two glasses).

Because there are few things more satisfying than an ever-reliable neighborhood spot. The Front Page is just that, with a menu full of sandwiches (breads are made in-house), patio seating, 16 beer taps, and a cocktail menu. Try the daiquiri.

Because springtime at Tiny Boxwoods means an al fresco brunch with a glass of rosé (yes, please). On leisurely afternoons, spring for cocktails and charcuterie or hit up the new Tiny’s Milk & Cookies, for an essential sweet tooth indulgence.

Because this quaint cocktail bar beckons ‘regular’ status. From the folks behind The Brixton and Drinks Lounge comes this combination cocktail and coffee shop, serving sandwiches, salads, pastries, and more—pretty much everything you could ask for in a local cocktail den.

Because streamlined access to some of Austin’s best burgers is a win for everyone. Lil’Doddy Burgers and Beer boasts a tight menu of Hopdoddy favorites, like the Bacon, Egg, n’ Cheese Burger and Impossible Burger—all pressed-to-order patties on fresh-baked buns, with signature Sassy Sauce. You’ll take an order of hot honey sweet potato fries, too.

Because choose from an expansive selection of sake varieties, with a dedicated sommelier as your guide. Plus, this SoCo favorite has switched things up, now offering Nikkei cuisine (a fare developed by Japanese immigrants in Peru). Highlights include grilled Japanese dishes served with Peruvian aji sauces.
