Ft. Lauderdale, once the vodka-sipping, spring-breaking party child of South Florida has grown up a lot in the last few years. In addition to adding a couple of Stanley Cups to its trophy case, the Yachting Capital of the World has developed a dining scene on par with its lofty nickname.
“It’s right on the cusp of becoming a real, metropolitan dining scene,” says Marc Falsetto, a partner in Anthony’s Runway 84 and Tacocraft and a longtime veteran of Broward County restaurants. “It’s not a sleepy beach town anymore, and we’ve got great chefs and great restaurants coming in. People are starting to take us seriously.”
Those chefs include people who’ve helmed Michelin-starred kitchens and James Beard nominees. The restaurants range from Runway’s classic Italian ambience to beachfront seafood and fine dining steakhouses. The city that became synonymous with partying has gotten a little more refined. And even if you do finish the night with shots at Elbo Room, you’ve got plenty of fantastic food to soak it up.
