Amanda's Pick:
Hendy’s on Henderson blew me away with their pretzel calamari, not-boring burrata, and surprisingly impressive salmon in brown butter vinaigrette. Plus, the grown-up Orange Julius was even better than my ‘90s mall memories.
This month …
At The Crescent, a national Greek restaurant group titan celebrated its 25th anniversary with its first Texas restaurant featuring a glass conservatory and a choose-your-own fish display. And The Highland hotel has a new definitive Dallas steakhouse, where chef Andrew Bell has gotten creative with the menu — still centered on Texas beef, naturally.
Casa Brasa University Park
New opening!
Chef Omar Flores’ already–superb restaurant group (including Whistle Britches, Even Coast, and Muchacho Tex Mex) hit a whole new level this year with this live-fire South American steakhouse and sushi bar. The see-and-be-seen center bar calls for gussying up for chic lunches and dinners, and the adjacent and more-intimate Kamilla Lounge offers maximalist cocktails, sushi, and selections from the raw bar every night after 5 p.m.
Pizzana Dallas Preston Forest Preston Hollow
New opening!
The pizzeria that found fame in Brentwood is putting down deeper roots in Dallas: Larger than its Knox Street sibling that arrived in 2022, the new spot for Neapolitan-style pies in the Preston Forest Shopping Center comes from pizzaiolo Daniele Uditi and Los Angeles-based entrepreneurs, Mark Nelson and Candace Nelson – the baker, author, and judge seen on “Cupcake Wars,” “Sugar Rush,” “Shark Tank,” and Bobby Flay’s “Throwdown.” Essential for all quality pizzerias, the fior di latte mozzarella and San Marzano tomatoes come directly from the Bel Paese.

Le BEEF Steak + Frites Plano
New opening!
Big news: You can now enjoy a steak frites dinner for under $30 at Plano’s Legacy North development. The real meal deal comes from local restaurateurs Alex Nunes and David Jeil (of Bavette Grill), and includes a crisp butter lettuce salad, a 50-day wet-aged prime steak served with a 19-ingredient sauce, and frites, of course. Incredibly, lunch is an even better bargain at $23.95 and comes with mousse au chocolat, too.
Elia Greek Tavern Bishop Arts District
The Mont Montserrat
New opening!
The Mont annihilates the “Fort Worth fancy” stereotype with 1960s glamour making an impressive backdrop to oysters on the half shell, fried chicken with poblano cornbread sauce, and mesquite-grilled tomahawks. If you can pull away from the glitz inside that comes from local company, Maven Interior Design, there’s a gorgeous view outdoors perfect for sampling chicken liver pâté and gulf fish ceviche from the patio menu.
Fun Pizza Kitchen Frisco, Allen, Plano, Mckinney
The Gibson Addison
Uchi Dallas Uptown
Now a multi-award-winning chef, Tyson Cole proved Texans can serve good sushi. He also made the Lone Star state the nexus of a national brand of restaurants that includes the acclaimed Uchiko and Uchiba. Currently at Uchi Dallas, as Rhonda McCullar leads as chef de cuisine and Daniel Yoon as head sushi chef, the hama chile in ponzu broth, semisweet kabocha tempura, and heralded fried milk are as tasty as ever.
Nikuya Rooftop Downtown
The Old Warsaw State Thomas
SĒR Steak + Spirits Design District
It’s a dazzling spectacle from start to finish at this sky-high steakhouse offering views of downtown and the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge. Up on the 27th floor of the Hilton Anatole, chef Aubrey Murphy goes big with prime Angus and Wagyu steaks, as well as less-common game like New Zealand elk racks and bison striploins. For a smoke show at your table to match the ambient city lights, try the colossal prawns or tableside meringue flambé, served with a flourish of dry ice.
