Sean Brock revolutionized the Southern food scene with Husk and McCrady’s in Charleston, and he’s at it again in Nashville with June (upstairs from his fixed-price restaurant Audrey), taking the tasting menu format to the next level. What can you expect? A seemingly endless progression of small plates split up into acts, with a sensibility combining tradition with the avant-garde.

For serious steak, seafood, top-notch appetizers, and a knockout wine list, look no further than this Nashville outpost of South Carolina’s popular family-owned chophouse mini-chain. Pro tip: Sides are serious here — there are no less than 20 choices — some of them can’t-miss house signatures (lobster and smoked bacon mac ‘n’ cheese, anyone?).

Known equally for its award-winning margaritas, tacos and enchiladas, and saucy, ever-changing billboard signs (“It’s so hot out I might actually drink water”), East Nashville’s de facto decades-old cantina stands out brightly on the local Mexican restaurant scene.

Here’s a cocktail experience that’s as special as they come: The Vesper Club is The Continental’s (Sean Brock’s restaurant at the Grand Hyatt) very own back bar and it’s all about martinis — a tasting of five variations, paired with (what else?) five samples of high-end caviar.

It’s Barcelona in Music City at the lively Nashville outpost of Yann de Rochefort’s Manhattan-born tapas-plus establishment. Come with friends and fill your table with all the shareable classics — patatas bravas, clams in green sauce, and the ham and mushroom croquettes are required eating.

For a crave-worthy modern American menu — half of it devoted to “shareable creations” — served up with a rock ‘n’ roll sensibility (look for the Dave Grohl cocktail), you’ll definitely want to visit this bigger-and-better-than-ever establishment from husband-and-wife team Chris and Erica Rains.

You won’t want to miss this subterranean Printers Row restaurant — full name Makeready Libations and Liberation — in the Noelle Hotel, with its industrial-chic decor (and a wall full of silhouette portraits of famous Nashvilleans) and its American-eclectic menu.

Is this Dickerson Pike hotspot an actual motel, a swim club, or a dive bar with a fabled history? All of the above. Lyon Porter and Jersey Banks of the Urban Cowboy hotel and pub brought this 1950s motor lodge back to life, and the retro bar, complete with linoleum floors and green vinyl booths, is where you want to be.

If you like the idea of plant-based food so varied and good that you won’t miss meat or dairy for a minute, you’ll definitely like this vegan’s paradise in the OneC1ity development. Come for brunch and have — what else? — the definitive “AVO toast,” enhanced with hearts of palm mousse.
