New on Resy: Sister Restaurant, Tango Room, National Anthem, and More

Sister has big shoes (or a least a big dining room) to fill — the site was once the home of The Grape, an iconic Dallas wine bar, for almost 50 years — but it does so with panache, an irresistible Italian-Mediterranean menu, and an excellent wine list of its own.

The Tango Room is an intimate, elegant Design District hideaway with a luxury-tinged steakhouse menu full of caviar, truffles, foie gras, and even a lobster corndog. Pro tip: Come hungry and share one of the restaurant’s large-format offerings (Peking duck, whole salt-baked red snapper, etc.).

No need to stand at attention at this pioneering East Quarter restaurant from Nick Badovinus (Neighborhood Services, Town Hearth). With its quirky decor — interior neon; a Honda motorcycle suspended above one booth — and its all-purpose American menu, this is clearly a place to relax and have fun.

No, you didn’t take a wrong turn and end up in the Windy City by mistake. D.L. Mack’s is filled with midcentury Chicago memorabilia (even tiles from the old Chicago Civic Center) and the no-nonsense, if sometimes nostalgic, menu centers on Chicago-style pizza — the thin crust, not the deep-dish, variety.

As if the tropical-fantasy interior, craft cocktails, and Asian-Middle Eastern menu (from dumplings to skewers) aren’t enough, this Bishop Arts District restaurant and lounge keeps the party going with its slightly hidden, wildly colorful Casanova karaoke speakeasy.

Restaurateur Hunter Pond (East Hampton Sandwich Company) brings a taste of Greenwich Village to Highland Park with his bright and breezy tribute to East Coast seafood and other regional favorites — from lobster roll to chicken Parm.

Look for plenty of spice and color on the boundless Mexican and Tex-Mex menu at this outpost of the Dallas mini-chain along the banks of Flower Mound’s verdant River Walk. Pro tip: You can upgrade your lunch entree with a mini margarita and soup or salad.

Want proof that this River Walk “spaghetti Western” restaurant isn’t standard Italian? Just order the signature Uncle Paul’s Chicken Fried Steak — a chicken-fried rib eye topped with meatballs, broccolini, and mozzarella salad, with maybe a Sergio Leone (Texas whiskey and Frangelico) to start.

Picture yourself at the Polo Lounge or Musso & Frank’s or some other legendary Old Hollywood meeting-and-eating place. That’s the vibe at this glamorous Lovers Lane steakhouse and cocktail lounge from Hunter Pond (East Hampton Sandwich Company, Hudson House).

Find this almost-clandestine Mexican and Norteño hideaway underneath the Drey Hotel in the revivified Village complex — and you’ll be glad you did. Agave- and rum-based cocktails are a big deal here, the masa for the freshly made tortillas is nixtamalized in-house, and the Veracruz-style fish is baked in a banana leaf.

Here’s cause for celebration just off the Northwest Parkway — a suburban outpost of the buzz-worthy Dallas original, which has been a wine-lover’s favorite since 2018. Expect 30 or so wines by the glass (in two sizes), plus meat-and-cheese platters, pimento cheese toast, and other wine-worthy snacks.
