New on Resy: Hank’s, Cru Cafe, Dashi, Savi Cucina, and More

Open since 1999, this modern interpretation of a classic 1940s-era fish house is located in a renovated turn-of-the-century warehouse. White tablecloths, leather banquettes, and warm wood paneling set the stage for Hank’s seafood-focused cuisine. Expect multi-level chilled seafood towers, fresh peel-and-eat shrimp, and crisp fried flounder platters.

This cozy neighborhood favorite has been serving up New American comfort food for almost two decades. Enter the 18th-century Charleston single-style house, and snag a spot at the chef’s counter for a front-row view of the busy kitchen. Along with decadent, mozzarella-filled fried chicken or pecan-smoked duck breast, the thing to get is the Thai seafood risotto; it is the stuff of legends. 

This popular food truck has put down permanent roots. The low-key, industrial space features exposed ductwork and a 1970s vibe, with laid-back counter service. The fusion fare runs the gamut from Spanish-style patatas bravas to tacos garnished with Thai slaw to duck ramen loaded with pork belly, kimchi, and a “golden egg.”

This stylish eatery is inspired by the moles of Mexico’s central Oaxaca region. The compact space, outfitted with dark wood furniture and a small corner bar, produces refined dishes with tortillas handmade from masa ground on site. Try a namesake margarita, which owes both its name and vibrant color to pink cactus fruit. 

While this neighborly French cafe may be located in an unassuming residential strip mall, the polished fare found inside would make any Parisian proud. Choose a seat at the long granite bar surrounded by framed French art prints, and take in the menu bursting with beloved classics like escargot, bouillabaisse, and duck cassoulet, plus some of the best Belgian-style mussels and frites anywhere.  

This sleek, contemporary restaurant and wine bar puts a focus on Italian sips and eats. Set in a low-key shopping plaza, the bright blue banquettes and modern gold light fixtures provide a bold backdrop for refined Italian staples. Expect crisp, gooey arancini, tender osso buco, and rich mushroom risotto with truffle butter. Along with drop-in wine tastings on Tuesdays evenings, there’s also a happy hour every night of the week.

With its festive artwork and airy atmosphere, this James Island newcomer is making quite a splash. The menu features a host of Mexican recipes made with fresh, local ingredients, from a variety of tacos to heartier options like tamales and enchiladas. Note the extensive Tequila and mezcal menu, which is certain to please agave lovers of all stripes. 

Slightly off the beaten path, this long-running, family-owned Japanese restaurant is a favorite with locals. Adorned with knick knacks, the cozy space offers both table and sushi bar seating. Expect hot dishes like teriyaki, katsu, and udon soups, plus a rainbow of sushi, nigiri, and sashimi options. 

The newly opened Gale is a family affair, named for the chef-owner’s mother. With high ceilings, a bank of floor-to-ceiling windows, and butcher block table tops, the bright space features an Italian-influenced menu of creative small plates, comforting pastas and creative wood-fired pizzas. Don’t miss the sambal margherita, topped with mozzarella, chili oil and fresh honey.
