New on Resy: Partenope Ristorante, Nosh Bistro, Grace

What happens when a Neapolitan master pizzaiolo and a serious Dallas industry vet fall in love? They open an ode to southern Italian food. And Partenope Ristorante doesn’t mess around: pizzas come fresh out of an Italian-made, wood-fired oven (try the Montanara– it won gold at Naples’ “Pizza Olympics”), pastas are handmade, and small plates disclose a love for Naples’ street food scene (look no further than the decadent mozzarella in carrozza). It’s a delicious operation made with a lot of heart and soul, so come here, and come often.

Diners, rejoice: after two years spent in his native Israel, acclaimed chef Avner Samuel has returned to the Dallas dining scene. Nosh Bistro is a more casual reincarnation of the restaurant Samuel helmed before he left. It’s fusion at its best, pulling from the Mediterranean and Asia for its globe-trotting menu. Think midnight black hummus with handcrafted pita, gnocchi with smoked prosciutto, sumac-dusted diver scallops, and pan-seared chicken stuffed with Périgord truffles. But if it’s a more indulgent affair you’re after, perch yourself at the chef’s table, and sample Samuel’s masterful chops up close.

A little over ten years ago, the fine dining gods descended upon the Lone Star State, and took up residency at Grace. Known for its unparalleled hospitality, Adam Jones’ Fort Worth institution ushers diners into an elegant setting, where award-winning chef Blaine Staniford holds court. Opt for the chef’s tasting menu, where a collection of modern American classics parade one after another (Maine lobster, house-made duck ham, Axis venison sausage), or go à la carte. Either way, make sure to pick a bottle from the glass-enclosed wine cellar on display.

For reimagined comfort food, make a beeline to Jasper’s. This scrumptious American kitchen (with locations in Richardson and Uptown Dallas) champions a made-from-scratch ethos, whipping up simple recipes that let the ingredients sing. The menu dives into American Southwest classics, with influences from the Pacific Rim and Mediterrenean. Noted favorites include Texas Gulf crab cakes, creamy chicken masa soup, and a French dip au jus.

This is one roast duck you won’t want to miss. The lacquered bird arrives like an empress with her regalia: house-made steamed buns, rich hoisin, and scallion and cucumber are here to deepen the flavor of the duck’s crispy, buttery skin and delicate meat. But there’s a lot more to love on Fine China’s East Asian menu, which runs the gamut from sweet chili sambal wings to Thai-style fried snapper. As for the restaurant itself—the crown jewel of the Statler Hotel—expect a glamorous mid-century aesthetic, with a dash of Hong Kong romance.

You can count on Graham Dodds to bring diner food into the 21st century. The Southern chef behind shuttered favorite Wayward Sons doles out breakfast, brunch, and lunch with a chef’s razor-sharp eye, and a wink to the greasy spoons of yore. As such, you’re in for perfect omelets, flaky biscuits, flavor-packed gravy, and a Texas tortilla soup that could cure any ail. If breakfast is the most important meal of the day, it’s best enjoyed here.

After meandering through the lobby, down some stairs, and into a wood-paneled room with nothing but a shoe-shine bench and a phone booth (hint: the phone plays an important part here), a door pops open to reveal a glowing neon sign: you’ve arrived. Bourbon & Banter is a swanky lounge hidden in the basement of the Statler, and in addition to its staggering bourbon library, the speakeasy excels with the cocktails—you’ll find us sipping the Finger Wave and Pompadour.

Whether you want to talk smack or share snacks, Scout has you covered. With 12,000 square feet of dining, drinking, and gaming, the Statler’s expansive social hub is meant for groups. Go for a game of pool, a round of bowling, or a set of ping pong, and rest assured that the kitchen will keep you satiated with bbq chicharones, chili cheese fries, fried chicken buckets, and a DIY Baja fish taco kit. Assemble a crew and get ready for some friendly competition.

You can trust The Kitchen at Cooper’s Meat Market with its chops: only the finest meats grace the butcher case of this Oak Cliff gem. At this two-in-one retail shop and steakhouse concept, lunch calls for the excellent chophouse burger (made with ground chuck and smoked brisket) and oozing cheesesteak, while dinner exudes with the paragons of steakhouse fare. We’re talking Texas Kobe carpaccio, Caesar salad, dry aged ribeye, and an imposing prime porterhouse for two. Tuck in.

A pool bar by day, rooftop lounge by night, Waterproof knows how to throw a party. The indoor-outdoor space transforms into a buzzing oasis come nighttime, with panoramic downtown Dallas views to accompany your sipping. Craft cocktails, bottle service, finger foods—Waterproof has it all, with happy hour from from 4 to 7pm on weekdays ($7 drinks, anyone?).

When four guys wanted a spot to gather and share stories over a drink and a bite, they opened up a temple to wholesome foods. And at HG Sply Co.’s largest location yet, the locally-sourced ingredients have ample space to shine. Expect the same hits from the original spaces—you can’t go wrong with the smoky carrot hummus, bison chili Frito pie, street corn avocado toast, and braised beef short rib—alongside some alluring extras, like indoor games (corn hole, pool, arcade games, ping pong) and a sprawling covered patio.

Whiskey connoisseurs flock to this Lower Greenville establishment for its well-stocked cabinet. The aptly named Feed Company Eatery & Bourbon Lounge boasts no less than 200 varieties—which can be sampled as a taster or a build-your-own flight—and are best paired with the chef’s selection of smoked meats, cheeses, and condiments. Nevertheless, the distinctly Southern menu is as enticing as it gets, with shrimp and grits, pastrami on rye, and a French onion grilled cheese as standouts.
