New on Resy: Rochambeau, Scampo, Sonsie, and More

You can’t go wrong with the easy-to-love (mostly) traditional French fare here — think escargots and steak frites — and first-rate French wines at this buzzy Back Bay café and brasserie from the Lyons Group (Scampo, Summer Shack, etc.).

Lucky Boston. Nobody cooks like Lydia Shire (Biba, Locke-Ober, and more), with big flavors, impeccable technique, and always a sense of fun. At Scampo, the accents are Italian but the cuisine is classic — i.e., delightfully original — just like Shire. (Local swordfish with spicy shrimp meatballs, anyone?)

The first-class people-watching through the French doors opening onto Newbury Street, the easy-going and extensive menu (from oysters to pizza to phở), and the swanky cocktails at the elegant mahogany bar are just some of the reasons why Sonsie has been a Boston institution for more than a quarter of a century.

Get a taste of the South without leaving Boston at this high-spirited Fenway restaurant, bar, and music venue. Expect line dancing, live bluegrass, wagon-wheel chandeliers, a serious whiskey menu, and a Southern menu anchored by chicken and waffles and shrimp and grits.

Did somebody say sports bar? This big, lively, Red Sox-country favorite boasts 32 giant flat-screens, wings, and pizza from Newton’s famed Max & Leo’s, games including pingpong and giant jenga, and in-house access to an official Fenway batting cage.

You want to get up close and personal with the Red Sox? The Bleacher Bar, nestled in a one-time batting cage under the center field bleachers at Fenway Park, has a screened window looking right out onto the diamond. When the Sox are playing, you might almost forget the array of beers on tap and the otherwise irresistible bar food menu — almost, but not quite.

The bar goes on forever, the lighting is seductive, and the comfort food’s abundant at this Fort Point nouveau-speakeasy — and, yes, that’s an oversized portrait of Frank Sinatra on the wall. It’s his kind of place.

The Liberty Hotel was once the Charles Street Jail, so what better name for the bar than Alibi? Cocktails have prison-themed names (Rikers Island, Early Release), there are mug shots on the walls of famous onetime jailbirds like Lindsay Lohan and Al Pacino, and the food comes from the Liberty’s showplace restaurant — Lydia Shire’s Scampo.

As if the elevated bar food (Kobe meatloaf sandwich, truffled mushroom pizza), the star-quality bartenders, and the clubby atmosphere weren’t attractions enough, the Social Club lives up to its name with a non-stop calendar of wine dinners, comedy nights, holiday parties, and more.

This big, boisterous Irish American pub from the ubiquitous Lyons Group (Scampo, The Bleacher Bar, Sonsie, etc.) ups the game with witty twists on the usual pub fare — think Irish poutine with corned beef lardons — and a serious program of live music, Irish and otherwise.

Old paintings and antique accents frame this clubby restaurant-bar opened by Kristin Jenkins — also owner of Leonards New England, a celebrity-magnet antique store in Seekonk. Look for straightforward American fare including, naturally, classic clam chowder.

It’s comfort food — and comfort dining — at its absolute best. Since 1930, Harvard Gardens has been a beacon for Bostonians, and more than 90 years later, it still is the place to be for rib-sticking, nourishing fare.

If you’re craving seafood, this is the place to be. From oyster towers and shrimp scampi to sushi, Summer Shack has it all when it comes to enjoying fresh local seafood.

Osteria Nino takes the best of New England’s bounty and showcases it in classic Italian cooking traditions. Pro tip: Don’t leave without ordering the cacio e pepe.
