Darling is a delight. Each of its drinks is a genuine surprise, and the pork wontons are the best bar snack I’ve had in ages."
This month …
Brings an excellent harvest of recent openings, including a dim sum-serving cocktail bar in Central Square, a swank Beacon Hill speakeasy and a new tenant in the former Craigie on Main space from some of the best culinary minds the city has to offer.
Fallow Kin Cambridge
On The Hit List!
Located in Central Square in the space that was once Craigie on Main, Fallow Kin is a veritable brain trust of local culinary talent. Restaurateurs Conor Dennehy and Danielle Ayer, the husband-and-wife owners of Talulla, and chef Marcos Sanchez, formerly of Gray’s Hall, bank on their close ties to local farmers to serve a season-specific menu that puts vegetables at the center (but doesn’t shy away from meat and fish).
Darling Cambridge
On The Hit List!
It’s a dark cocktail lounge from longtime industry veterans Brian Callahan and Zimu Chen in the former Mary Chung space in Central Square, and honors its previous tenant with an inventive, daily changing cocktail menu that plays with Chinese flavors. Fittingly, bar bites come in the form of a dim sum-inspired menu dispensing everything from braised pork ribs to “Filet O’ Fish” bao.
89 Charles Beacon Hill
89 Charles is located on Beacon Hill’s most-trafficked street — though you might never know it, thanks to the lace curtains that shield the subterranean bar from the street. Walk down a short flight of stairs to discover an intimate lounge decked out in Art Deco grandeur, with an ambitious cocktail menu (think tallow-washed old fashioneds and coconut cream-topped espresso martinis) to match.
