New on Resy: Bar Volpe, Orfano, Cicada, and More

For her follow-up to Fox & The Knife, chef Karen Akunowicz has turned her attention to Southern Italy. Bar Volpe is an ode to handcrafted pasta and wood-fired cooking with Akunowicz’s signature spunky twists.

The classics get a twist at this stylish Italian place (booths in royal purple velvet, floor-to-ceiling windows, chandeliers that look like they’re inset with diamonds) from noted chef Tiffani Faison (Sweet Cheeks Q, Fool’s Errand) who loves to play with conventions. The Caesar salad, a menu mainstay, includes peppered avocado, and there are now even more hand-roasted meats to choose from, like a a house signature koji and Rob Roy aged longbone ribeye. Pro tip: Be sure to flag down the rolling Martini cart that works the room.

Northern Italian food gets the spotlight at this restaurant from chef Will Gilson (Puritan & Company, Café Beatrice, and The Lexington). Think housemade pasta, locally caught fish and shellfish, and the best meats and produce from local New England farms.

Here’s something you don’t find on every corner: A low-key, greenery-filled café dedicated to Vietnam’s centuries-old coffee culture, complete with custom roasts and a variety of hot and cold coffee-based beverages. The proprietors, also behind the popular Nem Kitchen pop-up, add a light menu of salads, bánh mì sandwiches, and pastries during the day, and heartier fare on weekend evenings.

You’ll want to become a regular at this sleek, contemporary South Boston extension of the original Castle Island in Norwood. The brewery’s whole gamut of craft beers is on offer here — including limited editions and only-in-Southie exclusives — and there are wings, sandwiches, and bar pizzas (by Bardo’s), with dough made with, yes, Castle Island beer.

This cozy Cambridge café — the work of Alexandra Whisnant (Gâté Comme des Filles) and Bobby MacLean (Picnic & Pantry) — serves just the essentials: wine, cheese, and dessert. Indulgence comes at a price, however: cellphones are banned.

Sometimes you just need food that’s fun to eat (from wings and quesadillas to a pork chop dinner), a good choice of craft beers and craft cocktails, and some party-time music — from both bands and DJs — so you can dance it all off. And when you do, this colorful, cavernous club has got you covered.

Marblehead is famous for its lighthouse, but this local establishment is a beacon of a different kind, drawing the hungry with sandwiches, flatbreads, steaks, and plenty of fresh fish and shellfish. Live bands and DJs provide added flash on weekends.

This bright, comfortable restaurant in Burlington’s Wayside Commons offers two completely different menus — one for lovers of Mediterranean flavors, the other for those looking for something with more spice. Souvlaki or biryani — it’s your choice, but either way, you can’t go wrong.
