Frequent travelers to Spain know that “BCN” is the airport code for Barcelona — and like that great Mediterranean capital, BCN Taste & Tradition serves up a wide range of Spanish cuisine, both classical and contemporary. Installed in a 1920s-vintage mansion, the place even has an unmistakable upscale Barcelona vibe, with earth tones, intimate lighting, and opulent napery.

Culinary lightning struck again when American sushi master Tyson Cole opened this Bayou City outpost of the acclaimed Austin original (there are other branches in Dallas, Denver, and Miami). A reclaimed-pine foyer, bronze screens, and pecan-wood booths set the scene for Cole’s exhilarating non-traditional Japanese fare.

Here’s a fresh approach to Indian cuisine (though one with ancient roots), where you can find a menu of vivid, varied fare in the Vedic tradition that’s entirely plant-based and gluten-free. Pro tip: come Thursday evenings for Vegan Happy Hour, complete with botanical-based cocktail and food specials.

Jessica Biondi, owner of this fashionable establishment — kitted out with cutting-edge Italian furnishings — hails from the town of Fano, on Italy’s Adriatic coast. So does chef Angelo Cuppone. So it’s no surprise, then, that seafood features prominently on the appealingly unusual menu (when’s the last time you had pasta with fish ragù?).

The art of winemaking is on full display, with more than 50 well-chosen wines by the glass, at this handsome Museum District wine bar and restaurant opened by chef Daniel Wolfe, proprietor of the city’s popular Wolfe & Wine caterers. Charcuterie boards, flatbreads, and a range of entrees frame the enological treasures.

Expect perfect sushi and sashimi in both traditional and innovative forms at this sleek spot opened in suburban Spring by Peggy and Daniel Chang of Houston’s Uptown Sushi fame — but expect the unexpected, too, as the Changs expand the definition of what sushi can be (eggplant sashimi, anyone?).
