Now Open on Resy: Fog Room, Communion, The Octopus Bar, and More

Featuring Instagram-worthy views from the 16th floor rooftop of downtown’s Charter Hotel, this is one of those rare hotel bars that attracts locals as much as it does tourists. Cocktails are pretty much the main attraction, but dishes like crab rolls and shoestring fries, or charcuterie boards and chocolate pot de creme, will keep the party going just a wee bit longer.

Chef Kristi Brown and her son Damon Bomar opened this Central District eatery as a community hub first and foremost, and the food — South-meets-Pacific Northwest in what they’ve labeled “Seattle Soul” — has been generating new fans since day one. Don’t miss the hybrid po’ boy-banh mi with fried catfish, or pho with brisket and caramelized pork belly.

Because this is a Belltown favorite for sustainably sourced, simple, classic American fare, and a beloved happy hour. Think whole roast chicken for two, Penn Cove mussels, and a Boulevardier that goes down way too easy.

Revered for its uncommon brews, this Interbay spot is a favorite of local beer nerds, and for good reason.  The outdoor beer garden may not offer much in the way of views, but it’s a perfectly fine spot to enjoy a selection from the tap list, be it IPA, oak-aged saison, or Belgian-style white ale. Bring your own food — just be respectful about it — but not the dog (no pets allowed).

When the need for a Parisian vacation strikes but transatlantic plane tickets are out of reach, settle for second best: dinner at this quintessential French bistro in the Central District. Chef JJ Proville puts together dishes that feel true to their French roots, but also highlight Pacific Northwest ingredients, particularly seafood, and to pair, there’s a wonderful selection of naturally minded wines.

Dining Status: Open for outdoor dining in a covered, heated patio. Reservations are for parties of two, with seatings at 12 noon, 2, 4, and 6 p.m. The dine-in menu is now a Bretagne-style seafood tower. There’s no better setting for Mike Easton’s soulful Italian cooking than in the Alki Homestead, a West Seattle landmark that dates back to 1904. Newly restored after surviving a fire in 2009, it’s an intimate showcase for the work of this true pastaiolo.

The rustic cabin vibe makes this an ideal cold-weather spot to get cozy with a hot toddy, and the lovely sun-dappled patio makes it just as enjoyable for a margarita on a warm afternoon. Either way, note that the menu is entirely plant-based but still bar-friendly, with Impossible burgers, fried pickles, mac-and-“cheese,” and unexpectedly delicious jalapeño poppers with peanut butter and raspberry jam.

Decked in more maritime curios than perhaps anywhere else in town — and that’s saying a lot, especially for a city that loves its nautically themed bars — this Wallingford spot keeps the theme afloat with sea puns, Jell-O shots, food (like tuna melts and hot dogs), and a totcho situation called the Chum Bucket. All can be purchased online or from the walk-up window for adjoining The Salty Shack.

When it’s impossible to please everyone in a group, this is the place to go. The Pioneer Square spot has everything from Thai larb to Italian pastas, with a smattering of treats like parmesan-dusted churros for good measure. While the menu defies borders, expect it to be heavy on seafood.

If you love the idea of camping, but not the actual feat itself, then head straight to The Mountaineering Club, where reimagined campsite bites, free-flowing libations, and a killer view make the hike up the 16 floors worth it (we’re kidding — there’s an elevator).
