New on Resy: Sitka & Spruce, The London Plane, Ray’s Boathouse

Tucked in the Melrose Market between a flower and a cheese shop, Matt Dillon’s Sitka & Spruce is an ode to the Pacific Northwest. In the kitchen, meticulous dishes disclose a love for the community, comprised of local farmers, fishermen, and purveyors, and where foraged foods take centerstage. Expect rich carrot salads, addicting sourdough with whipped butter, and delectable duck confit.

A sprawling locale bathed in natural light, The London Plane is a lustworthy one-stop shop, packing a gorgeous cafe, flower shop, retail and specialty foods store all under one roof. Stop for the incredible baked goods in the morning, or the veggie-driven, Mediterranean-inspired lunch, and browse the shelves for local honey, ceramics, and wines, a steaming cup of coffee in hand.

Nestled on the shores of Ballard, this iconic seafood restaurant overlooks the Puget Sound and the rugged Olympic Mountains, boasting an enviable—and unrivaled—view. And yet, what comes on the plate is just as stunning, with fresh Northwest catches turned into vibrant seafood plates. It’s waterfront dining at its best, and sustainable too.

Not into the whole fine dining affair? Head up straight to Ray’s Café, which offers a pared-down menu with the same dazzling view. Expect a menu of small bites, soups, and seafood entrées (get the Dungeness crab cakes), accompanied by cocktails, wine, and beer.

Anchored by the FareStart nonprofit, Maslow’s is a restaurant with a mission. The South Lake Union eatery employs and trains at-risk adults and youth, using foodservice as a tool to help them transform their lives. It’s dining with a purpose, so order from the Americana menu (crab cakes, Shepherd’s pie, black tea brined fried chicken) and make a difference.

The powerhouse couple behind beloved Le Gourmand has come out of retirement and done it again. At Marmite, renowned farm-to-table chef Bruce Naftaly doles out quintessential French classics, with standout soups and sandwiches. Meanwhile, Sara Naftaly is at the shakers, crafting mean cocktails at Marmite’s nocturnal sibling, Spirit in the Bottle. Pro-tip: book a table during the coveted brunch hours to sample baked goods from Sara’s stellar Amandine Bakeshop.

Billing its menu as “inauthentic Eurasian food,” Cook Weaver certainly grabs for attention. Add to that some pretty excellent food that’s got locals continuously streaming in, and an intricate mural depicting a Russian folk tale. As it happens, Cook Weaver has it all. The cozy Capitol Hill nook pulls in flavors from all over the world: beer battered nori dumplings, crab seasoning fried chicken, and pastrami cured trout are among the many surprising and crave-worthy dishes on the menu.

Smoke is the central theme at this lively Central District spot, bringing in flame-licked flavors from the American south all the way to Southeast Asia. Central Smoke Bar & Smokery spans the globe—think slow-smoked ribs and brisket, side-by-side with tea-smoked duck and Vietnamese-smoked veal. Libation-wise, the drinks don’t escape the smoky treatment, where mezcal and smoked preparations shine.

Dedicated to bringing authentic Neapolitan pizzas to Seattle—with a flagship location in Capitol Hill and another in Georgetown—Via Tribunali is steeped in Southern Italian traditions. That means an inviting and warm ambiance reminiscent of a trattoria, an expertly-curated list of Italian wines, and pizzas fired in an oven made out of bricks from Naples, rich with Vesuvian ash.

When Via Tribunali moved out of its Fremont location, it left its Vesuvian-rich oven in its wake. Thankfully, In Bocca Al Lupo took over. Here, the thin-crusted, bubbly-cracked pizzas come with a pair of scissors for cutting, the spritzes fizzle, and the pasta is homey (order the lasagna or capellini pomodoro).

The Belltown gem believes in real food, grown and harvested by the people in its neighboring communities, and with an ever-changing menu of hyper fresh salads, house-made pasta, and farm-raised meat—alongside a delightful list of local wines and crafted cocktail—sustainability has never tasted better.

A family-owned and operated restaurant in the heart of Seattle’s original neighborhood, Pioneer Square D&E (for drink & eats) spins classic American cuisine with flair. The menu comes courtesy of Ben Davison (Local 360), who relies on seasonal vegetables, house-made pasta, and hearty family-style plates (get the roasted and pressed whole suckling pig). As for the beverages, enjoy classic cocktails, beer, cider, and wine.

At Seastar Restaurant, go big or go home: renowned chef John Howie’s seafood extravaganza is the place to splurge and get the best the Pacific coast has to offer. You’re here for the notorious fresh Dungeness crab, alderwood plank salmon, and hand-rolled sushi. Also on offer: award-winning wines and a classic raw bar.
