At The Lexington, chef Will Gilson serves hearty, thoughtfully sourced dishes like glazed Swedish meatballs with cranberry and mustard, or wild mushroom cavatelli with honeynut squash in a sleek, second-floor dining room overlooking the new Cambridge Crossing neighborhood. Tucked into a corner of Somerville’s Bow Market, Tanám is a warm invitation to experience both Filipinx and Black American cuisine. Its narrative approach highlights both cultures as well as cooking in a dinner party-like atmosphere, where you might participate in a silverware-free, large-format kamayan that serves wings in sticky-sweet fish sauce, fried pork spring rolls, pickled green papaya and carrot salad, and much more over banana leaves (in-person kamayans won’t be available again until spring, but you can order them for pickup and delivery). The Smoke Shop BBQ brings Texas-style brisket, baskets of fried catfish, and mac ‘n’ cheese bites with house-cured bacon and other indulgent delicacies to the heart of Harvard Square. This outpost also features a menu exclusive you won’t find at other Smoke Shop locations: a duo of Nashville hot chicken sliders with mayo, pickles, and slaw on Martin’s potato buns. This counter-service import of one of Portland, Maine’s preeminent seafood spots serves their reputation-making brown butter lobster roll plus fried oysters buns, New England clam chowder with salt pork, and plenty of the promised bivalves. And you’ll find them all at this laid-back wine bar, along with a glass of Riesling or pinot noir and one of Downtown Crossing’s finest patios. Open for indoor and outdoor dining, and takeout.

Dark woods, white tablecloths, and views of Plymouth Harbor: Cafe Strega is date-night Italian, personified. In edible terms, that means classics like lobster ravioli in lobster cream sauce, veal Florentine, and a 12-ounce Black Angus tenderloin with wild mushrooms and a Barolo demi-glaze. What makes this Waltham-based brewery so mighty? Wellesley’s resident tapas bar is precisely the tour of Spain you hope it will be. It serves the classics like Serrano ham and tortilla española, but the star of the show may be the hardwood charcoal oven that turns out grilled Spanish octopus with roasted potatoes, lollipop lamb chops with rosemary mustard oil, and a whole confit duck leg. The name says it all: The Green House is a literal greenhouse on the grounds of one of the oldest continuously operating farms in the United States, where you can sip direct-from-the-orchard ciders alongside regional craft beers. Food-wise, you can expect honey butter fried chicken sandwiches and spinach and feta pizzas, but you may want to save room for down-home desserts including pumpkin whoopie pies and freshly made apple cider donuts. Hanging lanterns, dramatically high-backed wooden booths, and yes, purple color accents: This South Boston spot specializing in “Asian fusion tapas” has an unapologetically bold aesthetic with a food menu to match. On it you’ll find truffle rice and uni clay pots, torched toro maki with caviar, and signature nigiri selections including blueberry foie gras, torched wagyu with quail egg, and red golden snapper with black truffle pate and foam.
