New on Resy: Denver ChopHouse & Brewery, Bastien’s, Stowaway Kitchen, and More

Because this family-owned institution has been dishing out its famous sugar steak for decades, and in style. The building started out as a drive-in movie theater, and was later converted into the restaurant. Today, between the iconic, old-school sign and the twinkly lit patio, Bastien’s feels like a show in itself. Open for takeout. 

In a town with its fair share of steakhouses, the ChopHouse stands out not only for its exceptional cuts of meat, but for its vibes. You’re here for the New York strip, yes, but also for its setting in the historic Union Pacific Building, which transports you to Denver’s Wild West days. Open for takeout.

The downtown location of Colorado’s popular Tex-Mex destination is home to one of the best patios in the city. Spring for the fresh guacamole with cotija cheese, chicken quesadillas with caramelized onions, and grilled shrimp fajitas. Dallas chef Josh Sutcliff had never been to Colorado before opening Local Jones, but with dishes like Colorado River trout schnitzel, the menu reads as if written by a local. Nestled into the first floor of the Halcyon Hotel, the airy space feels like a retro living room that you could happily curl up in all day. If you’re not heading to the mountains, the best place to savor the winter season is the rooftop of Cherry Creek’s Halcyon Hotel. They’ve deemed their seasonal offerings “Après in the Clouds,” and you can take your pick of activities, from curling on the iceless rink to cozying up in a winter cabana, complete with a three-course meal and bottle of wine. Come for the rock shrimp tempura, but also come for the glamour, as Jing might just be the prettiest restaurant in the Tech Center. Pencil in a mid-day visit: The Lunch Wok, where you’ll get your choice of protein, rice, and soup or salad, is one of the best deals in town. Open for outdoor dining and takeout.

Marco’s was the first pizzeria in Colorado to be certified by the Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana, which means you can tuck into a slice knowing that it was prepared using fastidious Neapolitan methods. Stowaway Kitchen describes itself as “a suitcase of adventures amounted by two travelers; a trove of recipes collected from various nooks and crannies of the world.” Could anything sound more appealing, especially at a time when travel is difficult (or even impossible) for many?
