Here’s How to Support Texas Restaurants Who Provided Flood Relief

As relief teams continue to navigate the flood devastation caused across Central Texas throughout July, restaurants across the state stepped up to provide meals, raise funds, and support their communities in their time of need. At a time of rising costs and staffing challenges, these acts of support and kindness are a reminder of restaurants’ place as vital hubs for the people they serve.

Below is a list of some Texas restaurants that went above and beyond in terms of community aid while also, crucially, remaining open for business. Many continue to offer relief on a day-to-day basis; others are banding together for fundraisers and group efforts. They stepped up for their communities. Now, let’s show up for them.

Southern Smoke Foundation

From providing life-sustaining support to families affected on the Gulf Coast to routing emergency relief to communities affected by the L.A. fires, the Houston-based nonprofit has led the way in providing tangible aid and assistance to hospitality workers affected by disasters across the nation. The organization swiftly committed $150,000 for the forthcoming Hill Country Relief Fund (applications will open August 15) and for urgent needs like medical or funeral expenses, F+B workers can apply now through Southern Smoke’s existing relief fund. Meanwhile, their Behind You program also offers no cost counseling to F+B workers.

Chef Tyson Cole’s original Austin restaurant and the entire Hai Hospitality group have partnered with Mercy Chefs, a nonprofit providing chef-prepared meals to disaster victims, volunteers, and first responders. A portion of sales from all Texas based locations of Uchi, Uchiko, and Uchiba in July will be donated to Mercy Chefs.

For the month of July, Odd Duck is donating $1 for every cornbread and $2 from every Nice, Bryce cocktail sold to assist those affected by floods.

Starting July 6th, guests can round up their checks at the popular Asian smokehouse to donate directly to Mercy Chefs.

The Lower Greenville restaurant donated a portion of sales from July 7 through 13 to support flooding and disaster relief efforts.
