Southern hospitality redefined. Olamaie occupies a charming, vintage house near campus, but there’s nothing old fashioned about the food. Helmed by Chef Michael Fojtasek, a 2015 Food & Wine Best New Chef, Olamaie serves up killer cocktails, elegantly updated Southern entrees, and, of course, its famous biscuits. It’s hard to make a bad call with this menu, but here are a few standouts to help you out.

1.Those Biscuits: They’re not on the menu, but the secret is out. Ask loyal diners what they love about Olamaie and the first words out of their mouths will be “those biscuits.” Ask your server for an order, and soon you’ll be in the presence of the elusive, simple, perfect biscuit: crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. On second thought, get two orders.

2.Southern Nights Cocktail: This one tastes like the south: a little bit sweet, a little bit sassy. The Southern Nights combines bourbon, vermouth, Amaro Abano, and cherry brandy for a true southern sipper. Start your night on the porch with one of these babies, and you’ll be all right.

3.Kill’t White Button Mushrooms: White button mushrooms might not seem like one of the most exciting things on the menu, but a warm country ham vinaigrette cut with tarragon makes this starter a must-order. Rich and comforting, it’ll make you nostalgic in the best possible way.

4. “Hoppin’ John”: These smoky beans are a bite of what Olamaie is about: refined Southern flavors. Sea Island red peas are cooked with a smoked pot likker and topped with a soft-boiled egg for a modern classic.

5.Grilled Pimento Cheese Sandwich: This one’s for the lunch crowd. Olamaie makes a mean lunch, from oyster po’ boys to fried pork chop sandwiches; but the number one pick is the pimento cheese sandwich. Why? Because the only way to make a grilled cheese sandwich better is to make it a grilled pimento cheese sandwich.

And there you have it. Grab a seat at Olamaie today!
