Resy among top-ranked in the Live Events category

NEW YORK CITY, NY (March 9, 2021) — Resy, the restaurant reservation platform and dining brand part of the American Express Global Dining Network, has been named to Fast Company’s prestigious annual list of the World’s Most Innovative Companies for 2021. This is the third time the company has earned a place on the list and the first time being ranked in the Live Events category, see listing here.

The list honors the businesses that have not only found a way to be resilient in the past year, but that made an impact on their industries and culture as a whole.

This year’s MIC list features 463 businesses from 29 countries. Fast Company’s editors and writers sought out the most groundbreaking businesses across the globe and industries.

“In a year of unprecedented challenges, the companies on this list exhibit fearlessness, ingenuity, and creativity in the face of crisis,” said Fast Company Deputy Editor David Lidsky, who oversaw the issue with Senior Editor Amy Farley.

“Resy is incredibly proud to be included in Fast Company’s Most Innovative Company feature following a year that posed historic challenges to the restaurant industry,” said Alexander Lee, VP & GM, Resy-American Express Global Dining. “There was an urgent need to innovate and every team member across the organization rose to that challenge. As the restaurant industry continues to recover we will continue to support restaurants and diners, and ultimately build back stronger.”

In 2017 and 2019 Resy earned a place on the MIC list in the “Food” category for upending the restaurant booking space and elevating hospitality technology. This year, Resy is recognized for excellence in live events and how it created, produced and executed some of the most exciting – and safe – culinary experiences throughout 2020, amidst the ongoing pandemic.

In 2020, with restaurants closed for in-person dining around much of the country, Resy – known for its original programming that gives diners an inside lens to the world of restaurants – considered how to create a slate of safe events. By leaning into take out, drive-thru, outdoor structures, virtual and other experiential tactics, Resy reimagined restaurant events and proved that off-premise and socially distant dining can be thrilling. Resy experiential series born out of the pandemic include:

  • The Resy Drive-Thru, a restaurant tasting experience enjoyed from the comfort of one’s own car. For this event, attendees drive through a course with chef/restaurant tents plotted throughout; at each stop they are delivered a dish through their car window, and by the time they exit have enjoyed a multi-course tasting menu from a city’s best chefs. The event debuted in LA in October 2020 and sold out immediately. In March 2021, it heads to Miami for a second run and exclusive perks for American Express Gold Card Members.
  • The Classics Remix, a takeout-based series that pairs a leading chef in a city with a famous food destination. For one weekend only, the chef flips the script on the institution’s signature dishes, creating a never-before-seen “remix” package. Pairings for the October 2020 debut series included Chef Mike Solomonov taking over Philadelphia’s Pat’s King of Steaks, Sean Brock taking over Nashville’s Arnold’s Country Kitchen, Atlanta’s Deborah VanTrece Deborah partnering with Paschal’s, a staple of the historic Castleberry Hill neighborhood since 1947 that has served Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Aretha Franklin, Dizzy Gillespie, and more.
  • The Yurt Villages, presented by American Express and Resy, a collection of private, covered dining ‘yurts’ at top restaurants around the US. The Yurt Villages became among the most sought-after reservations on Resy while providing critical support to participating restaurant during the winter months. In March 2021, Resy and American Express launched a follow-up outdoor dining initiative, The Outdoor Villages, which feature some of NYC’s best options for outdoor dining, again giving additional support to the restaurant industry.
