New York City

Green Fig

Picture sitting home at around the dinner table (with a tree as your centerpiece), shared plates and food coming out of the kitchen whenever it’s ready. Add some inspiration from the North African Maghreb region and you’ve got yourself a dinner at Green Fig. With dishes like wild boar tagine and Hudson Valley foie gras, their menu is an interpretation of Middle-terranean modern cuisine. A “tribute to the five senses.” // Hells Kitchen. Book now at Green Fig.

Insa

Thank you Kickstarter for giving Insa, a Korean restaurant and karaoke bar, a platform to be funded on. Recently receiving 2 stars from NYTimes‘ Pete Wells, this Gowanus native has “one of the most suave” versions of beef tartare in the city. Mr. Wells finishes his 2 star review with a few sentences that sums up a night at Insa perfectly: “By that time, I was in the jungle room, clutching a microphone for dear life as if that would be enough to give me the extra octaves I needed for ‘Blue Bayou.’ I hadn’t meant to sing. But one of the servers had opened the door on a room swaddled in orchids and tropical leaves and artificial turf. Then somebody keyed a Dolly Parton number into the karaoke machine. ‘There’s also a deep-sea room, a space room and a psychedelic room,’ the server said, discreetly closing the door.” This place is fire AF. // Gowanus. Book now at Insa.

Pasquale Jones

The Charlie Bird crew has done it again, this time with 2 Stefano Ferraro ovens and a sick chef’s counter. Serving pizzas that make even the most cynical of New Yorkers proud, their meats and cuttlefish are also bomb. You know this story. // Nolita. Book now at Pasquale Jones.

Speedy Romeo BK

If thin-crust is the name of the game, then Speedy Romeo is the MVP. Fired in a wood-burning oven, these pizzas are more chewy than charred. Located in a 100 year old bar turned liquor store, then auto parts shop, this Clinton Hill staple also pulls fresh mozzarella every morning. Plus, they’ve been on Michelin Guide’s Bib Gourmand list every year since 2013. // Clinton Hill. Book now at Speedy Romeo BK.

Lighthouse BK

With a strong focus on fresh food & bold flavors, this locally sourced, seasonally driven restaurant has a menu that is accompanied by a kickass cocktail program. Local and sustainable is the name of the game. Grass-fed, free-range meat and poultry, as well as responsibly harvested seafood is what Lighthouse is all about, if you’re into that whole organic and sustainable products thing. // Williamsburg. Book now at Lighthouse BK.

Salvation Taco + the Salvation Taco Roof

You know her burger, but have you tried Michelin-starred chef April Bloomfield and partner Ken Friedman’s midtown taqueria and cantina? Featuring an internationally driven menu, this spot is open every day for breakfast, lunch and dinner so make yourself at home because why not? The rooftop is opening up for the season soon. Stand by. // Midtown East.

Randolph Beer + Randolph Brooklyn

Soulful vibes is what it’s all about, and these Manhattan and Brooklyn restaurants deliver. Have you curled up in their Memphis-style grilled cheese with pulled pork and mac and cheese in it, served next to tomato soup and waffle fries? They describe it as, “losing the diet war one grilled cheese at a time,” and that’s ok. // Book now at Randolph Beer (Little Italy) + Randolph Brooklyn (Williamsburg).

I Sodi

Prosciutto, salami, wine, vegetables and a killer cacio e pepe, I Sodi is just like the farm Chef Rita Sodi grew up on in Florence, Italy. The fooderati have been whispering about this place for years. // West Village. Book now at I Sodi.

Momi Ramen (East Hampton)

Unlike most ramen houses in NYC, and even in Japan, Momi Ramen makes its noodles fresh several times a day. Focusing on “bounce and resilience,” Kurt Wenzel of the NYTimes says, “Ultimately, though, a ramen house’s reputation lives and dies with its noodle broth, and Momi’s version is excellent.” Every day, they prepare 2 massive kettles of tonkotsu broth in addition to other classic Japanese Izakaya dishes. // East Hampton. Book now at Momi Ramen.

Rubirosa

Nolita’s favorite family-run neighborhood Italian-American restaurant and pizzeria with a 56 year-old thin-crust pizza recipe from Joe and Pat’s Pizzeria in Staten Island. They have housemade pastas and a unique Italian-focused drink list “whoever said models don’t eat pizza hasn’t met Lindsey Wixson or Hilary Rhoda, who both beeline to Nolita’s Rubirosa, as does designer Richard Chai. Rhoda asks for the vodka sauce pizza, which she insists is one of the best she’s ever had.” – Vogue. // Nolita. Book now at Rubirosa.

Dinnertable

Have you been to The Garret East, have you been to their Dinnertable? New on the app, get your RESY for the most secretive restaurant in the game. When you go, look out for the Taco Cioccolato. FTW. // East Village. Book now at Dinnertable.

Tosca Cafe

What once opened as a dive bar in 1919, now is the boho-spirited, Tosca Cafe. Opened by the team behind New York’s The Spotted Pig and The Breslin, the menu is a classic yet modern Italian spread including snacks, like chicken liver spiedin, house-made pastas, and an all-star roast chicken for 2 with ricotta, pine nuts and marsala. It’s a “wonderful transformation” of an SF “landmark” – Zagat. Don’t miss the buttermilk or roasted white chocolate gelati. // North Beach. Book now at Tosca Cafe.
