From an Upper Kirby sushi destination to the Woodlands outpost of a popular Malaysian restaurant, we have you covered with this continuously updated list of hot new debuts.
And if you’re seeking out some beloved Houston spots that are now bookable on Resy, we’ve got you covered here.
Kira Upper Kirby
Newly added!
The team behind the elegant Neo omakase restaurant in Montrose goes slightly more casual with this friendly Upper Kirby entry, where the à la carte menu includes hand rolls and donburi rice bowls, the soundtrack is vintage vinyl, and the libations use Japanese spirits, including premium whiskies, to spike seasonally-focused cocktails.
Maven at Sawyer Yards Washington Avenue Coalition / Memorial Park
Newly added!
Houston Astros pitcher Lance McCullers Jr. is on a winning streak with his barista-to-bartender Maven mini-chain around town, and no location is more enticing than his first brick-and-mortar installation, in the Silver Street Studios arts and events space. Come for everything from flat whites to carajillos, and from breakfast tacos to truffled grilled cheese.
Cru Lounge Galleria Gulfton
Newly added!
The ever-growing hookah-focused Cru chain amps up the Galleria nightlife scene with a selection of specialty “Crutails,” 30 flavors of shisha, premium bottle service, and a menu of savory small plates (don’t miss the “Cru Cut” wings) that’ll keep you ordering another round.
Sunday Social Oak Forest
Newly added!
Because every evening at 5 p.m., the popular Sunday Press café in Garden Oaks transforms into this buzzy bar, featuring familiar cocktails done right, as well as innovative libations you’ll find nowhere else (and, yes, there’s food, from truffle fries to flatbreads, with caviar along the way).
KP’s Kitchen – Bellaire Bellaire
The original Memorial-area KP’s (courtesy of restaurateur Kerry Pauly, aka the titular KP) has long had a devoted following — it’s the platonic ideal of an easy-going and lively American bistro. And this offshoot in Bellaire has it all: a 3,500-square-foot spot with two patios, a generously proportioned bar, and KP’s familiar, everybody-friendly menu.
Maven Coffee + Cocktails Fourth Ward
Astros pitcher Lance McCullers Jr. and his business partners perked up Minute Maid Stadium with their high-end coffee carts before expanding to this permanent spot at the Thompson hotel. Besides the titular beverages, look for curated “lounge bites” and a classic weekend brunch menu.
Granger’s Museum Park
Popular Houston restaurateur Ryan Granger (Fia’s Pizzeria, Bodegas Taco Shop) goes all out with his bright, 7,000-square-foot all-American bar and grill in the Museum District, offering a weather-friendly patio and an attractively accessible menu that ranges from oysters to sandwiches to rotisserie chicken.
Phat Eatery – The Woodlands Grogans Mill Village
The original Phat Eatery is a star of Katy’s Asian Town, famous for its Malaysian street fare and dim sum. But this Woodlands outpost shines even brighter thanks to a dining room that’s twice the size and a selection of Chinese-style barbecue dishes added to the specialties Katy diners know and love.
Katy Beer Garden Katy
Consider this the beer garden raised to another level — a sprawling indoor-outdoor tribute to the brewer’s art, surrounded by towering oak trees, next door to the historic Cardiff Rice Dryer, with about 100 beers (and 20 wines) on tap. To eat? Nothing fancy, just oversized Bavarian pretzels with two kinds of mustard — aka, perfect beer food.
Bar Bludorn Houston
Popular local chef-restaurateur Aaron Bludorn, of Bludorn and Navy Blue fame, goes a little more casual with this three-meals-a-day Memorial offshoot, part gastropub, part upscale tavern. His longtime sous-chef Alexandra Peña heads up the kitchen, reworking favorites from the Bludorn menu and adding plenty of new delights.
Sol 7 Houston
Looking for a little touch of paradise in downtown Houston? Here’s your spot: a restaurant and bar on the seventh-story rooftop of the Thompson hotel, with a big sunny (or starlit) patio, tropical greenery, spectacular views of the city skyline, and a menu full of craveable dishes by French-trained chef Alexandre Viriot.
Pizzana Houston Houston
Get ready for L.A.-style pizza at this outpost of the popular California-based chain, where Neapolitan-born pizzaiolo Daniele Uditi partners with Candace and Charles Nelson of Sprinkles Cupcakes to serve just what you’re hungry for: crave-worthy antipasto, pasta, and thin-crust pies, plus Sprinkles-inspired desserts.
PostScript River Oaks
Think pink at this mostly rose-hued River Oaks dining room from the team behind the hip Dallas speakeasy and restaurant XOXO Dining Room, with a menu designed by noted Houston chef Bryan Caswell that promises oysters, next-level caviar service, Akaushi Wagyu steaks, and, oh yes, a buzzer at every table to call for more Champagne.
BASO The Heights
You’ll want to put this seductive, slightly Basque-flavored spot from chefs Jacques Varon and Max Lappe on your Hit List for its deftly chosen wine list (Spanish and otherwise), its Spanish-style bar snacks (Manzanilla olives, piparra peppers, pan con tomate), and its eclectic menu of dishes based on Texas ingredients, all of which is mostly cooked on Baso’s wood-fired grill.
Duchess Uptown Park
Here’s the kind of place you’ll want to visit again and again: a lunch-and-dinner restaurant conceived by Peggy and Daniel Chang of Uptown Sushi, with an atmosphere that deftly mixes the elegant and the casual. The menu’s focused on wood-grilled fish and shellfish but with land-bound treats like lamb lollipops and an Akaushi Wagyu burger for the seafood-averse.
Balboa Surf Club Houston
Come to this seafood-forward charmer from the folks behind Il Bracco for its casual-elegant dining room (dark green banquettes, acres of natural wood), its fire-pit-and-fountain covered patio, and above all, its enticing West Coast-inspired menu, offering everything from sushi to miso salmon, with steak and chicken along the way.
The Sunrise House Montrose
If you think breakfast (or brunch) is the best meal of the day, you’re in the right spot. The menu covers all the morning bases, from omelets to avocado toast, chilaquiles to shrimp and grits (with bacon-and-egg “sunrise sushi” along the way) — thankfully, you can enjoy everything all day long.
Citizens Of Montrose Montrose
Say hello to serious coffee (including wellness lattes) and epic brekkie bowls at this sunny, Aussie-inspired breakfast and lunch purveyor, an import from New York City. And, yes, the choices include Australia’s iconic contribution to breakfast menus everywhere: “smashing” avocado toast.
Koya Midtown
Dress to dazzle at this opulent, lavishly appointed restaurant and lounge (elegant hardwoods, luminous marble, gilded palm trees) where the imaginatively fused Asian and Mediterranean dishes are enhanced with live music and show-stopping dance performances. Pro tip: The semi-secret lounge is a must for a nightcap.
Mimo Greater Eastwood
An uncommon Italian restaurant from chef Fernando Rios and beverage guru Mike Sammons (Weights & Measures), Mimo is heating up the East End with its menu of antipasti, pastas, main dishes, and desserts of the kind you’re more likely to find in Italy itself than in the Stati Uniti.
Sushi by Hidden Rice Village
Here’s one that’s almost off the radar — a semi-secret 10-seat sushi bar in Rice Village from chef Jimmy Kieu of Hidden Omakase, offering a 30-minute 12-piece sushi tasting menu, with the particulars changing nightly according to what market fish is freshest and best.
Verde Garden Harlow District
Is this a breezy beer garden offering more than 50 brews? A serious cocktail spot with a dozen frozen rum and agave drinks? A vibrant Tex-Mex restaurant with a ceviche-to-enchilada menu? Yes to all of the above — and we couldn’t imagine a better combination.
