You’ll definitely have fun in this very colorful but intimate speakeasy with mind-bending cocktails and a decadent ‘70s vibe (there’s a disco ball, but not just). Added attractions: art that blends collage, photography, and fabrics; vintage vinyl on the turntable; and live music on the weekends.
Porterhouse Grill Steakhouse & Pub Brookhaven
This Atlanta sibling of the decades-old Porterhouse in Athens offers the kind of steaks you dream about — hand-cut certified Angus ribeye, filet mignon, New York strip, and of course, its namesake: a 22-ounce porterhouse with wild mushroom ragout. (There’s seafood too, including the house signature that shouldn’t be overlooked: she-crab soup with sherry.)
Miss Conduck Sweet Auburn
Curry goat roti? Jerk chicken pasta? Dulce de leche cake? If that sounds like your kind of food, head to this Caribbean fusion place opened by Emily James and LaToya Franklyn, a Trinidadian mother-daughter team transplanted from Brooklyn. The tropical-themed interior also offers sports on TV, and everything else you need for a great night out.
Elektra Old Fourth Ward
Open for breakfast, dinner, and in-between snacks, this breezy indoor-outdoor poolside restaurant and bar transports you to the Mediterranean, courtesy of chef Jonathan McDowell (late of Delbar Middle Eastern), who serves up everything from hot and cold mezze (try the mussel and merguez combo) to whole fish and steak kabobs.
Moonlight Old Fourth Ward
You’ll definitely want to ascend to this cosmopolitan rooftop bar atop the Forth Hotel & Club for its jaunty Italian-retro design (rich leather and velvet seating, pink-and-white terrazzo floors), its wraparound views of the city, and of course, its splendid array of cocktails both classic and creative.
The Reading Room Decatur
You could call it a coffee shop, but this Decatur gem is something better: a community gathering place that happens to serve pastries from Saint Germain, generous platters of charcuterie and cheese, a curated selection of international wines produced by female vintners, and coffee from the woman-owned Little Waves Coffee Roasters in North Carolina.
Nàdair Restaurant Woodland Hills
Because you can trust Gunshow’s Kevin Gillespie when it comes to live-fire cooking: he gained fame years back at Woodfire Grill, after all. And it takes center stage at Nàdair, an elegant yet relaxed space with a menu that references the South, New England, and most importantly, his ancestral Scotland. Get ready for something really special — Nàdair will even offer whiskey from Gillespie’s personal collection.
Pera Bistro Wildwood
In this light-filled offshoot of Pasha Restaurant and Bar, Pera Bistro offers the same kinds of Turkish and Greek specialties Pasha’s known for but with much more of a focus on pastas and other Italian dishes — and, yes, in the best Turkish tradition, there’s hookah service too.
Yellow River Ale House Porterdale
Upping the dining game in Porterdale, this Art Déco-inspired bright spot — opened by Julie and Chris Freeman with chef Eddie Russell in the kitchen — features a mostly Middle Eastern menu, from harissa fries to octopus kebabs, that will keep you coming back for more.
The Reserve Conyers Kitchen & Cocktails Conyers
The original location of The Reserve may have closed, but it’s come roaring back, and it’s every bit as good as you might remember. The kitchen fires just what you want to eat (pizza, pasta, tacos, smash burgers, steak) in a space that’s more fun than ever — thanks partly to the live music and the late-night hours.
Okay Anny’s Dunwoody
Suddenly it’s 1989 at this cool but riotously colorful, exuberantly retro speakeasy from the team behind JoJo’s Beloved, semi-hidden in a Dunwoody’s food hall. Expect cosmos and kamikazes galore and a Michael Jackson/Spaceballs vibe.
Casa Balam Decatur
In a stunning and glowing space that evokes a northern Mexican hacienda, chef Luis Damian (of Oaxaca in Chamblee) serves a family-friendly menu full of freshly-made tortillas, ceviche, grilled meats and seafood, and a range of impeccable tacos, from beef birria to duck confit.
AÑEJO Lawrenceville
Whether you dine in the beautifully tiled dining room or out on the terrace with its perfect views of historic Lawrenceville, you’ll find a lot to love at this modern Mexican restaurant, where the menu ranges from ribeye chicharron to tortas and tacos, and the cocktails have an agave kick.
Politan Row at Ashford Lane Dunwoody
Dunwoody’s Ashford Lane food scene just keeps getting better, and this high-style food hall, opened by the New Orleans-based Politan Group, ups the ante even more. Look for top-flight Thai, Vietnamese, Indian, Italian, and Creole-Mexican purveyors, among others, plus two bars, a vibrant retro speakeasy, and a full-service Cuban cantina.
O by Brush Buckhead Village
Brush Sushi migrated from Decatur to Buckhead Village last year, bringing along its flawless nigiri, specialties from the binchotan grill, and more — but now, chef Jason Liang has added this restaurant-within-a-restaurant, where “O” stands for “omakase,” which translates to a choice of 16 or 25 courses of sheer perfection.
PLANTA Queen, Buckhead Buckhead
Leave it to chef David Lee to reengineer plant-based cuisine for a high-energy, well-heeled crowd. Planta Queen unleashes its meatless brilliance in the shape of a wild pan-Asian menu, where the sushi rolls and wok-fried noodles are as craveable as “the real thing.” Don’t sleep on the cocktails, either.
Lazy Betty Midtown
Chef Ron Hsu’s first, and very personal, restaurant was defined by its exemplary tasting menu, melding his Chinese roots, Southern upbringing, and honed French techniques. A Michelin star and a new Midtown location later, he and co-chef and -owner Aaron Phillips (also a Le Bernardin alumnus) have expanded with an additional à la carte menu at the bar and an impressive beverage program — wine pairings, mocktails, and curated spirits included.
Bar Diver West Midtown
The younger sibling of Richard Tang’s Girl Diver in Reynoldstown, Bar Diver, at Westside Paper, leans towards Southeast Asia with its menu of (mostly) dim sum and other small plates and its array of metropolis-meets-the-tropics cocktails.
Resto L’Antoinette Milton
Fans of the New Orleans-flavored Lagarde American Eatery and il Giallo Osteria & Bar know that Leonardo Moura and chef Jamie Adams go for authenticity — and that’s exactly what this charming French bistro in Milton offers, from onion soup prepared tableside to coq au vin and crème brûlée.
