Burger + Grain The Nations
Newly added!
Don’t let the casual-sounding name fool you: This is one of Nashville’s best-looking, best-run upscale restaurants — perfect for a big date or a landmark celebration, with its extensive and sophisticated menu of vegetable, seafood, and meat dishes (plus, okay, a couple of serious burgers), and its unparalleled selection of premium whiskeys.
Earnest Bar & Hideaway Nashville, Wedgewood Houston
Newly added!
Restaurateur Paul Cercone and mixologist Christopher Weber opened this cocktail-forward eating place in the historic Houston Station as Hemingway’s in 2017, later rebranding it as Earnest but retaining the same homage-to-the-Twenties atmosphere and eclectic menu. Pro tip: Treat yourself to something from the list of hard-to-find bourbons.
Fonda on 12th – Nashville 12 South | Nashville
Newly added!
Roberto Santibañez draws throngs to his real-deal modern-Mexican Fonda restaurants in Manhattan and Brooklyn, and you’ll definitely want to be one of the crowd at this family-friendly Nashville outpost, where he serves all his most popular dishes, from street corn with grilled lobster to Wagyu ribeye with chipotle-hazelnut mole.
Serrato’s Steakhouse – Brentwood Brentwood
Newly added!
Chef Jose Serrato made his mark with the original Serrato’s in Franklin, and you’ll definitely want to put its sibling on your list, for its classic salads, hand-cut steaks, and signature seafood and surf & turf offerings — and did we mention his unique adobo pork burger and those garlic mashed potatoes?
Southside Grill Sugar Valley
Newly added!
Bill Darsinos’ GReKo is East Nashville’s go-to Greek taverna. But at this wood-clad Sugar Valley restaurant and bar, he adds Greek and other Mediterranean accents to a Southern-leaning American menu, and the atmosphere is as warm as the Aegean sun.
Mellow Mushroom Broadway
Newly added!
Bring a crowd to this high-spirited pizzeria on Broadway — part of a 50-year-old, 16-state, Atlanta-born chain — for the party-time vibe, the 32 beers on tap, the live music (this is Nashville after all), and above all, the irresistible, shareable pizzas, including specials like the Marley, with jerk chicken.
St. Vito Focacceria The Gulch
It’s not pizza. It’s chef Michael Hanna’s brilliant take on the pronounce-it-if-you-can Sicilian flatbread called sfincione (“svyn-cho-nay”) — hefty focaccia-thick slabs, laced with melted fontina, finished with Pecorino and seasoned breadcrumbs, and topped with everything from tomato sauce and crabmeat to artichokes with roasted garlic — and we can’t get enough.
The Nashville Jam Company Berry Hill
Cortney and Gary Baron sell their fruit jams and pepper jellies nationwide, but only in Nashville can you dig into their morning-to-mid-afternoon café breakfasts, featuring tacos, Benedicts, pancakes, omelets, and more. Standout specialty: The PB&J chicken biscuit with, not peanut butter and jelly, but pimento cheese, bacon, and tomato jam.
TENN Restaurant Nashville
When it’s brunch time in Music City, head for this cool, earth-toned dining room at Holston House, where chef Brian Lombard — born in L.A. but steeped in Southern food culture — makes mornings (and early afternoons) magical with specialties like fried green tomatoes with whipped feta and bacon jam, and a country ham croque madame.
Gray’s On Main Downtown Franklin
You’ll like this casual, comfortable Franklin favorite in the iconic 19th-century Gray’s Drug Co. building for its updated takes on classic Southern specialties (pimento cheese balls, fried chicken, shrimp and grits) plus live music three nights a week — and definitely save room for the epic dark chocolate Belgium brownie.
Henley Midtown
You’re more likely to find locals at this Kimpton hotel restaurant than travelers, which says a lot. We’re all just here for the comfortable dining room, Southern hospitality, and a big booth. Start with anything with whiskey in it, then move on to dishes like pork belly with tomato jam, and smoked chicken with strawberry relish.
Serrato’s Steakhouse – Franklin Franklin
This upscale-casual, art-filled establishment in Franklin from veteran chef Jose Serrato stands out brilliantly for its wide-ranging menu of appetizers and entrées, both traditional and inventive, and its choice of hand-cut signature steaks — look no further than a house specialty of two filets topped with crab and Cajun lobster butter sauce.
Lockeland Table Lockeland Springs, East Nashville
You’ll feel welcome the moment you walk into this East Nashville neighborhood hangout in a former 1930s-vintage dry goods store — and chef Hal Holden-Bache’s alluring menu, including Southern-flavored dishes, wood-oven pizzas, and an empanada of the night, will keep you coming back.
L.A. Jackson Gulch
Come with friends to this glittery indoor-outdoor rooftop bar and restaurant atop the Thompson Nashville and order a gigantic cocktail to share (the vodka-based Devil in a New Dress serves four to eight) before moving on to the garlic Parmesan fries and the warm chocolate chip skillet cookie.
Pink Hermit Café by Jean-Georges Downtown
Jean-Georges Vongerichten in Nashville means citrusy olives, beautiful salads, and truffle-topped pizzas, all served in the sleek, sun-drenched (at least during the day) Hermitage Hotel café.
