Today and everyday, we’re celebrating the many great women-owned restaurants of Dallas, because these restaurants remain beacons in a male-dominated industry in which women remain woefully underrepresented in leadership positions. And we believe that behind every great restaurant is a woman. The following trailblazing restaurants are testaments to that mantra.

For date night or just an evening out with friends, you’ll love Leigh Hutchinson’s family-inspired Lower Greenville Italian for its warm lighting, its easy-going atmosphere, and its menu featuring hand-pulled mozzarella, house-made pasta, and Texas-bred Chianina beef.

Since 1985, Jeannie Terilli has been serving up crab claws sopped in butter and lemon sauce; pastas; chicken entrees; and her own creation, Italchos. Add a clubby atmosphere, and a rooftop patio with downtown views crisscrossed with string lights, and it’s easy to see why the venue has drawn loyalists for more than 35 years.

This gussied-up casual, California-meets-Texas bistro is the best of both worlds: Delicate housemade pasta dishes like braised rabbit and swiss chard pappardelle recall owners Allison Yoder and Stephen Rogers’ prior lives in Napa, while steaks and fried Texas quail represent their Dallas present.

The award-winning Italian restaurant owned by wife-and-husband team of Jennifer and David Uygur remains one of the toughest reservations in town, so set that Notify.

This Highland Park Mediterranean restaurant, from the same folks who brought you Gemma, focuses on seasonality and sustainability. Menus offer bright, vegetable-forward mezze, pastas, and kebabs, backed up by a wine list that draws equally on Texas, Lebanon, and Spain.

Since 2019, this restaurant and distillery from Sally and Evan Batt has offered solid bar fare, all the better to complement the venue’s robust beverage menu. Shared plates run the gamut, from not-so-typical charcuterie (housemade boursin cheese and grape chutney!) to melted pimento cheese tater tots.

Dino and Megan Santonicola opened Dallas’ first Southern Italian restaurant, showcasing Neapolitan pies and fare.

Pizzana Dallas Knox Street

Oak Lawn

Say hello to the first Texas outpost of L.A.’s celebrity-favorite pizzeria, owned by Candace Nelson of Sprinkles Cupcakes fame and actor Chris O’Donnell, with Naples-born pizzaiolo Daniele Uditi turning out “neo-Neapolitan” pies — including an acclaimed white “cacio e pepe” twist, with three kinds of cheese and cracked black pepper.

Near Southside

Chef-owner Molly McCook named her 14-year-old Fort Worth favorite after the street her grandparents lived on when she was growing up in Louisiana, but there’s nothing nostalgic about her deft modern elaborations of traditional dishes, full of local (and proudly identified) farm produce.
