Now on Resy: Thai Diner, Ursula, SONA, and More Local Favorites

The diner is dead, long live the diner! An all-day restaurant dreamt up by the married chef-owners behind Uncle Boons, Thai Diner takes your greasy spoon classics and reimagines them with Thailand in mind. The result? Ingenious and delicious bicultural plates (Thai tea babka French toast, anyone?) and a couple of Uncle Boons favorites for those still in mourning. We see you, crab fried rice.

Brooklyn’s favorite breakfast burrito spot also happens to have exceptionally good “sangwiches,” like the green chile fried mushroom, and a dinner menu filled with hits like the tomatillo green goddess salad and lamb carnitas. Add a prickly pear golden ale, and you’re set for hours.

Sona is fine dining, Indian style. Think chic, shimmering cocktails, steamy dishes of some of the city’s best biryani, and even pizza served, with chicken tikka and chili paneer. It’s the perfect Flatiron perch for seeing and being seen.

A Long Island City institution for more than 20 years, it’s a must-visit for French onion soup, housemade duck liver terrine, and a nice glass of red.

You can count on Emiliano Cammardella and Rossella Episcopo to make pasta sing at this light-filled, Park Slope haunt. Think fresh, ricotta-filled ravioli sauced in lemon and bottarga or gnocchi showered in truffle. The wine list’s a treasure trove of southern Italian bottles, and whatever you do, don’t skip dessert, which is imported weekly from an award-winning pastry chef based on the Amalfi Coast.

This union of American deli sensibilities and French luncheonettes results in the Platonic ideal of an all-day cafe in Bushwick. During the day, they serve breakfast, lunch, coffee, and snacks, and by night, La Cantine becomes a wine bar serving natty wines and small plates (and takes reservations). Don’t sleep on the mimolette cheese served with fennel oregano honey and Mel’s sourdough, or the crispy potatoes with confit garlic aioli.

Head here for cozy, Tokyo-style ramen that is sure to heal whatever ails you. Think runny egg yolks, creamy salty broth, and noodles silky enough to sleep on. Don’t sleep on the curry, either. Pro tip: Rai Rai Ken transforms into a late-night izakaya, Ban Rai, on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 10 p.m. to midnight.

Come here for perfectly classic Italian dishes, most of which can be made vegan, in an always fun environment. There’s usually live music or art of some kind, which you should most certainly pair with an egg cream and an order of fire fries.

This spot is decorated in a way befitting to its name, with bright purple banquettes and wallpaper with — you guessed it — pineapples. Come to take pictures, but also for their frozen piña colada and an order of expertly fried plantains.

It’s got a menu of Peruvian classics in a sleek, low-lit space that screams “night out.”  Order the anticucho (beef-heart skewers) and tuna kausa.

Slow-cooked pork belly, spicy shrimp dumplings, and salmon green curry — that’s Chai Thai Kitchen. Finish it off with a round of blue Thai mojitos and you’ve got yourself a night.

You’ll find us at Citizens for a healthy dose of Down Under, alongside their excellent coffee, breakfast food, and mimosas.

It’s an ever-changing dinner party helmed by one of Brooklyn’s best chefs, Billy Durney (Red Hook Tavern, Hometown Barbecue). The space plays host to a rotating roster of chefs, artists, musicians, and wine professionals, ensuring you’ll never get the same thing twice.  

It’s a multi-level spot that always feels like a party. Order a bunch of starters to share (don’t skip the seasoned tortilla chips) and a round of margaritas.

For delightful steaks, chops, and cocktails that all just-so-happen to be fully kosher. Pro tip: Go for the tableside dishes like the smoked turkey leg if you’re in the mood for a show.

It’s a delightful conglomerate of Asian cuisines in a sprawling space to match. Choose from Thai, Japanese, and Vietnamese dishes all under one roof.

Your favorite neighborhood bar in the Lower East Side serves up a killer happy hour (every day from 5 to 7 p.m.), fun and inventive cocktails with cheeky names (Bad Vegan or Betty White, anyone?), and crowd-pleasing shared plates (we’re partial to the baked paccheri).

Bati is a must for a wide variety of both vegan and omnivore-friendly bites, including a superb seven-hour doro wot with chicken, cooked in a spicy onion and Berbere stew. Pro tip: Go for one of the tastings to try everything you’d like. Extra injera, please.

For delicate, beautiful Thai dishes like the purple blossom dumpling, crispy purple eggplant, and colossal crab curry noodles, look no further than Nuaa. Luckily for you, everything tastes as good as it looks — which is very good.

Tara serves an exceptional Moroccan tagine by way of its upstate predecessor. The restaurant is wildly colorful and welcoming, making it a perfect backdrop to your order, which should include minced lamb cigars and spicy fava bean salad in addition to your tagine of choice.

Do come here for South American favorites like choripan with Argentinian chorizo, empanadas, and a cuatro leches cake. Did we mention the fact that there’s often live music, and the cocktail list is both creative and extensive?

Bushniwa is bright and airy, with an enormous skylight that’s perfect for having a lovely sushi meal underneath. Come for the squid leg karaage, chef’s selection of sushi or sashimi, and an order of clam miso soup.

Ube longganisa sliders with bright purple buns, pork sisig, and calamansi juice … That’s Kalye. It’s a casual, homey spot serving up supremely good Filipino dishes and the occasional whole roasted pig.

We come here for classic American dishes in a space that feels welcoming and natural. Do be on the lookout for the daily specials ($5 espresso martini Wednesdays, anyone?) and anything-but-ordinary bar food, like the patty melt with jalapeño mayo on brioche.

It’s a charming red-sauce joint in Astoria with clams oreganata, penne alla vodka, and perfectly crispy pizza — need we say more?

Because it’s a gorgeously decorated spot with a variety of specialized Thai cuisines. The menu is conveniently organized into the different regions, making sure that you’ll get to try some of everything, from everywhere. The gorgeous woven basket art that hangs from the ceiling is just a bonus.

It’s an enormous, modern spot serving up Indian cuisine that earned them a Michelin star at their previous location. Think tandoor venison, seafood platters, and lamb curry.

This is hearty, Mediterranean home cooking made in the style of the best cook in the family. Don’t skimp on the dips here: The muhammara, moutabel, and cucumber yogurt are standouts.

It’s a corner spot for superb seafood that makes you feel like you’re dining dockside. Order the lobster rolls, steamers, and heaping bowls of French fries.
