New York’s Newest Restaurant Openings, Now on Resy

Because when two brothers open a restaurant in tribute to their grandmother, the food better make that matriarch proud, especially when said matriarch was at the head of a family-owned restaurant empire in Mexico. And the Ramírez Degollado brothers more than succeeded  — this is the second Casa Carmen location — with an elegant menu that sings of Oaxaca, Veracruz, Puebla, and the Yucatán (get the chicken in a mole made with nearly 40 ingredients). 

Because all good things come in threes, and after opening Laser Wolf and K’Far, Michael Solomonov and his team are delving into cocktails and seafood. Think an indoor-outdoor terrace with a menu referencing Israel’s port city of Jaffa, where citrusy drinks shine, and a mighty raw bar is supplemented with things like pull-apart challah rolls and octopus shakshuka. 

Because breakfast at Tiffany’s is back, in a fresh space dripping in that signature turquoise, with food under the direction of acclaimed chef Daniel Boulud (Restaurant Daniel, Le Pavillon). That means a French-inspired menu of breakfast sets and high teas on stunning three-tiered displays, studded with shiny housemade pastries and caviar service — the latter is best spooned on the oeuf à la coque. 

New York’s favorite vegan Szechuan restaurant does it again with this third location on the Bowery, where a menu of reimagined comfort foods — General Tso’s mushroom, crab–less Rangoon, mapo tofu, dan dan noodles, and the like — always satisfies. 

Expect to see the same level of perfectionism and craft that you saw at the Michelin-starred Jua here — after all, chef Hoyoung Kim helms Moono, too. Straddling the line between fine dining and casual, Moono presents Korean dishes not often seen in New York (see the the soup inspired by Korean royal court cuisine) alongside crowd-pleasers like ssam, fried dumplings, and mungbean pancakes, all within a stunning space. 

The husband-and-wife team from everyone’s favorite aguachile and cocteles specialist in Jackson Heights, Mariscos El Submarino, is behind this Mexican cantina in Greenpoint where you feast on Mexican dishes influenced by French and Italian cooking techniques. That means a demi-glace of pasilla chile and fish sauce for a juicy tomahawk steak or risotto with green pipián and duck breast.

Because Libertine isn’t your typical New York-style French bistro. Helmed by Cody Pruitt (Anfora) and chef Max Mackinnon, it’s arguably as French as you can get without crossing the Atlantic, from the customized enameled tables to the all-natural wine list. Pro tip: This is where you should definitely order wine with your meal — both Pruitt and Mackinnon are wine experts (Mackinnon was the former wine director at Jupiter and Roberta’s), so you can trust it’s a truly excellent list.

This Long Island City listening room, like the best mix tape, leans heavily into combining the best of everything, and that extends to the food and drink menu, too: Think truffle fries, tuna crudo, espresso martinis, and skin-contact varietals.

One of the city’s favorite fiery Isan specialists can now be found in Flushing’s Tangram center where you can — and should — get the duck larb and crab fried rice.

A Noma and L’Arpège veteran and native of Spain, Valentina Salcedo is behind this Long Island City tapas bar that serves all the classics in homage to their grandmother, the restaurant’s namesake.

Matthew Abramcyk (Smith & Mills) is behind this clubhouse restaurant where New York classics shine: Think steak tartare and baby gem salad, martinis, Negronis, Manhattans, and Old Fashioneds in the cocktail lounge (known as The Wallace Lounge). Upstairs, you’ll find a menu of refined comfort food with a French twist, from chef Doug Brixton (formerly of Bâtard).

Housemade pasta is the order of the day at this elegant Soho spot that draws from Roman traditions but adds new twists, too. You can’t go wrong with any of the pastas, but don’t overlook any of the artichoke dishes, either.

New York loves a French neobistro, and this one doesn’t disappoint, especially when it comes to channeling French bohemian vibes in a decidedly downtown New York setting. Do expect classics like oysters with mignonette, croquettes, and tartare, plus drink standards like your favorite martini and Old Fashioned.   

Because who doesn’t love a rooftop restaurant in New York? This one boasts lovely views from its perch not far from Grand Central, plus a menu of crowd pleasers: think martinis with cornichon olive brine and Calabrian chile; frozen margaritas; oysters on the half shell, tuna tartare tacos, and lobster rolls.

Rejoice! One of the city’s best tropical bars is back, and we couldn’t be happier. The new Donna, now located in the West Village, still has all your favorites — Brancolada, here we come — but also, so much more, including a much more extensive food menu. Don’t sleep on the Lolo Avo; trust us. 

The cooking techniques and ingredients of France and Vietnam converge in this sleek spot where you can feast on ribeye and oxtail pho, crabmeat fried rice, banh mi sliders, and much more.  

It would be a travesty not to order one of the expertly made cocktails (zero-proof included) at this rooftop restaurant helmed by a trio of NoMad veterans, as would overlooking the whimsical, creative menu — a personal and lovely ode to the food and culture of Latin American diaspora.

You won’t want to miss an opportunity to dine at this museum restaurant with some serious views the next time you visit the American Museum of Natural History. Located inside the new Gilder Center, it’s the perfect spot to dine in between exhibits, with crowd-pleasing and satisfying fare.

Fans of Parcelle Wine, take note: Pig Bar is the craft beer-focused sibling to the chic wine bar next door. While the beers are the main draw here, you don’t want to sleep on the selection of cured meats, cheeses, and salads from chef Marie Lubin, either — there’s a reason for that meat slicer inside the storefront. 

Joe Campanale and Ilyssa Satter, the duo behind Brooklyn favorites Fausto and LaLou, are also behind this charmer of a Spanish wine and tapas bar where you can, and should, delight in jamón ibérico, canelones, conservas, and tortilla española, paired with a bevy of Spanish wines and gin-tonics. Pro tip: If the weather is nice, do opt for a seat in the lovely backyard patio.     

New Yorkers love a French restaurant, and this one, helmed by chef Alexia Duchêne, is one that’ll be sure to beguile you, bridging classic French techniques with more contemporary influences for a seasonal, ever-changing menu that spotlights vegetables, seafood, and pasta. 

This pop-up incubator from the same folks behind Cadence and Avant Garden hosts a variety of different pop-ups throughout the year and right now it’s all about fungi, with a Mushrooms & Beer pop-up led by Avant Garden chef Juan Pajarito. Expect dishes like tempura oyster mushrooms, hen of the woods cooked with celery root puree, and chocolate and truffle ravioli. 

The art of sushi omakase takes center stage at this intimate DUMBO sushi counter and restaurant inside  where you can choose from two different omakase courses, priced from $108 or $150. Founded by a trio of friends who saw a need for sushi omakase in the area, Junsui also happens to be halal, using ingredients flown directly in from Japan. Pro tip: Make a night out of it and check out the one-of-a-kind digital installations at The Museum of Digital Experiences while you’re at it (Junsui is located inside). 

Note: Junsui opens on May 5. 

At what was once Veranda, you’ll want to come for the burger made with sliced prime rib and a side of caviar tater tots, and amend that with a cocktail at the bar or the idyllic garden terrace. The seasonal American menu from Ashley Rath (formerly of Saint Theo’s) here does not disappoint, and best yet: Twenty Three Grand is enclosed in a retractable glass pergola, making for a most cinematic meal come rain or shine. 

Because this isn’t like any other sports bar you’ve been to: With its thoughtful design touches and Wes Anderson-like vintage vibes, Rocco’s (from the same group behind Bandits and The Garret) has a little bit of something for every sports enthusiast: classic cocktails and comforting and easily snackable fare included.

At this lovely spot located close to the waterfront in Greenpoint, former Bessou chef Emily Yuen pursues her passions, putting forth a Japanese American menu that fuses global influences and techniques in delicious new ways.  

Rejoice! Everyone’s favorite East Village sandwich shop is back in a bigger space on Avenue A, and we couldn’t be happier. Definitely don’t sleep on the wines, and do note that while there aren’t any sandwiches here, you can, and should, order a bit of everything from the menu, whether it’s hiramasa “pastrami” and elk tartare to aged quail and black maitake.  

Longtime Hell’s Kitchen residents and restaurateurs John Dempsey and Maren Powell are behind this charmer of a cocktail bar that pays homage to New York’s Gilded Age. That means classic cocktails designed by a Maison Premiere vet, featuring ice produced on the premises with a unique Clineball Ice Machine, a wine list curated by Ruffian’s Alexis Percival, and a Mediterranean-influence menu that’s got something for everyone. 

When the mood strikes for a glass of wine and some seriously lovely, thoughtful food to pair with, look no further than this wine bar. The selection of wines here will surprise you, with selections ranging from Serbia to Jurancon, and everywhere in between, minus the hefty price tags. 

Ma•dé, from the same duo behind Wayan, takes a global perspective on local fare, drawing inspiration from around the world, including Indonesia, Japan, France, and the Americas. Don’t sleep on the array of seafood dishes from chef Cedric Vongerichten.
