New York’s Newest Restaurant Openings, Now on Resy

If you can trust The Spaniard’s owners with something, it’s to create one hot spot of a drinking den with incredible fare. In the case of their eighth venture (read: they’ve got the formula on lock), Albert’s Bar, that means dry-aged burgers, steaks, and impressive cocktails, set across a handsome and expansive space.

After winning two Michelin stars for their tasting menu paired with beer, the minds behind Chicago’s Moody Tongue delve into sushi paired with beer. What to expect? Nigiri crafted by chef Hiromi Iwakiri savored with beers brewed by brewmaster Jared Rouben that range from an Asian pear Saison akin to Champagne to a shaved black truffle rice lager.

Taking cues from the port city and fishing capital of Baja California, Ensenada, you can trust El Fish Marisquería and its chef-owner Julian Medina (of Kuxé and La Chula Taqueria) to more than know their way around Mexican seafood. The menu runs the gamut from the tried-and-true (ceviche, tostadas, and tacos) to the unusual: expect fideo (Mexican noodles) with lobster and black truffle, a clam chowder by way of a tortilla soup, and salmon skewers with kung pao salsa.

Born out of two Lebanese entrepreneurs’ love (one of them, the chef-owner behind Brooklyn Heights’ Boutros) of their homeland’s rich cuisine and foodways, Café Mish Mosh is a bright all-day café dishing housemade pita, shawarma sandwiches, and kebab, along with something that’d only make sense in New York: pork shawarma eggrolls.

The local 5ive Spice mini-empire that began in Park Slope now brings its impeccable lineup of modern Vietnamese food to Gramercy, including crackly banh mi, Vietnamese-inspired tacos (look for the banh xeo tacos — get the braised short rib ones) and pho that’s slowly simmered for 12 hours.

New York certainly has no dearth of French wine bars, and this one stands out for its distinct ties to the Gallic region: Owner Najib Benhammou is from Paris, and he brings with him a distinctly Parisian perspective to the curated wine list — heavy on French wines, but of course — and small plates. Pro tip: Do check out the bathroom.

Like all great izakayas, The Last Call proffers the best of Japanese food and drink (fun cocktails, sake, and most importantly, impeccable yakitori) paired with an impressive Hi-Fi sound system that keeps local DJs spinning vinyl late into Friday and Saturday nights. Pro tip: Do not miss their killer happy hour, a $15 combo of five yakitori skewers with either a draft beer or a glass of sake.

Tucked along the throng of NoMad, Everdene emerges as a rooftop oasis, clocking in 4,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor space for you to lounge, drink, dance, and dine — unbeatable views of the Empire State building included.

As the name suggests, Outer Heaven promises to deliver an otherworldly nightlife experience — and it actually does, with one of the city’s best sound systems, sleek design influences, and a standout cocktail list that includes DIY cocktails at your table, plus plenty of mezcal, sake, and orange wine to go around, too.  

The teams behind Osakana and Okonomi/Yuji Ramen joined forces to convert the Brooklyn location of Osakana into this fish retail market/bento box takeaway spot by day that transitions into a reservation-only tasting counter spot on Friday and Saturday nights helmed by chef Daniel Lee. If you know anything about Osakana and Okonomi, you know that they always place a premium on the quality and freshness of their ingredients, and Okonomi Kappo Counter will be no exception. 

Note: Reservations will be released on Feb. 1 for reservations beginning in March. 

Roberta’s founders Carlo Mirarchi and Brandon Hoy are behind this dreamy Alphabet City wine bar where you can expect plenty of natural wines (but of course) along with an Italian-leaning menu that’s inventive and rustic: think pastas like sunchoke caramelle or veal agnolotti with amaretto, and snacks like polenta with Maine sea urchin and grilled tripe with pecorino and mint.  

In a town filled with so many sushi omakase joints, this one stands out precisely for its anonymity — and relative affordability, too. It’s the second spot from the same team behind Sheepshead Bay’s Omakase Sushi by Hiro, a beloved spot for omakase led by a Sushi Nakazawa vet.

Should you find yourself in Times Square (willingly or not so willingly), take comfort in some excellent tortas from chef Rick Bayless; we’re particularly partial to the eggplant Milanesa or the Cubana, made with Berkshire pork loin, bacon, avocado, and Chihuahua cheese.  

A Brooklyn extension of one of the Lower East Side’s favorite spots for avocado toasts and flat whites, Good Thanks is an all-day Australian spot that doesn’t disappoint. Should you stop by for dinner—and you should—don’t sleep on the housemade focaccia and the XO sauce grilled shrimp.  

Salil Mehta, the chef and restaurateur behind some of the city’s most celebrated Southeast Asian restaurants (Laut, Laut Singapura, Singlish, and Wau) turns his focus to his hometown of New Delhi, and to street food at this Upper West Side gem with its own tandoor clay oven. Don’t sleep on the dori kebab, the rogan josh made with steak, or the Malabar bone marrow pulau.  

This historic outpost of the famed Naples pizzeria does not disappoint. The margherita is a must (but you already knew that), but don’t overlook the rest of the menu, either. 

From the same team behind Sekai Omakase in Greenwich Village, Sushi Nikko is a little second-floor gem within the Jackx & Co. Food hall, serving handrolls, seasonal nigiri, and an affordable $68 omakase menu that can’t be beat. 

This Midtown jewel box spotlights the best of the Mediterranean, particularly the culinary traditions of Greece and Turkey, from  tzatziki and  grilled laraki (branzino) to baked shrimp saganaki and phyllo knafeh. 

For those times when you want nothing more than the crispest of fish tacos, some refreshing aguachile, or a satisfying mole half chicken, know that this family-owned gem in Astoria always has you covered with its crowd-pleasing menu of Mexican favorites. 

One of Greenpoint’s favorite watering holes can now be found in Midtown, along with its seriously beloved cocktail program and its lineup of ever-seasonal plates. Whatever you do, don’t sleep on the Big Chef Sandwich, with layers of mortadella and Parmesan, sprinkled with pistachio and arugula.

The name says it all, but in addition to all manner of steaks, from chateaubriand to a dry-aged New York strip, this charming spot — ideal for a pre- or post-theater outing — also serves up all your favorite French bistro staples, from French onion soup and salade Lyonnaise to a gruyere omelet and a roasted chicken.  

Etrusca is a lovely respite from the crowds of the Financial District, run by chef Elisa da Prato (formerly of Honey’s), who’s come home to New York after a stint running her own eponymous restaurant in the heart of Italy’s Tuscan region. Don’t sleep on the natural wine list. 

Because a night out should always feel like a holiday, right? That’s the concept behind this seafood-centric spot where two veteran chefs with some very serious chops (Marc Howard and Dina Fan) lead the kitchen, serving up dishes like squid pasta, toro rolls, and a bavette steak, that pair perfectly with a cocktail of your choosing. 

Leaning into our collective nostalgia and love for the glamour of coastal Italian fare — that’s Casino. Expect dishes like wood-fired prawns with Calabrian chile, whole-roasted turbot, a hearty T-bone for two, pappardelle with a sugo made of smoked lamb and black garlic, and a classic lobster cioppino. Pro tip: Do try to grab a seat at the bar or at one of the cozy burnt red banquettes. 

If you can’t make the transatlantic voyage to Paris, a stop here will more than suffice when you’re longing for a classic Parisian brasserie experience. All of your favorites are here, from escargot and sole meunière to that must-order millefeuille. 

What was formerly Mena is now Mostrador, an all-day spot that transforms daily from a breakfast café to lunch counter and then an evening wine bar. Headed up by acclaimed Argentinian chef Fernando Trocca, Mostrador excels at highlighting flavors and traditions from South America to delicious effect.  

Chef Greg Baxtrom, of critically acclaimed Olmsted and Maison Yaki in Brooklyn, is at it again, only this time, he’s brought his special brand of inventive, seasonally inspired cooking to Rockefeller Center.  

The beloved destination for Italian American food from the same team behind Carbone is finally back, and while the mozzarella is still flowing, it’s not quite the same as you might remember; it’s even better.

All good things come in twos, and after opening grilled meats wonderland Laser Wolf upstairs in Williamsburg’s Hoxton Hotel, Michael Solomonov opened K’Far in its lobby. And the all-day menu hits all the right notes, with exceptional Jerusalem bagels and pastries in the morning (do not skip the pistachio sticky bun, a Resy staff favorite) and a game-changing chicken schnitzel come nighttime. It’s definitely the kind of place one could linger at all day long …

Because Michelin-starred chef Christophe Bellanca’s Upper West Side gem is a destination for French-inspired food that’s both classically French but also contemporary and of the moment: think scallops with stuffed cabbage and black truffles; or Leo’s Favorite Burger, made with prime beef, fresh tomatoes, Vermont cheddar, and caramelized onions and served with crispy frites.
