D.C.’s Newest Restaurant Openings, Now on Resy

Get ready for a dining experience unlike any other: a three-level 5,300-square-foot restaurant inspired by Afrofuturism that melds fantasy and technology with the culture of the African diaspora. Throw in industry vet Keem Hughley (of ABC Pony and Brothers and Sisters fame) as the visionary in charge, Al Thompson (Hanumanh, barmini) on wines and cocktails, and bookmark Bronze as your next destination dining spot.

This sparkling contemporary-look restaurant from Rose Previte and Mike Schuster (of Maydān and Compass Rose fame) is definitely creating a buzz in Fairfax with its irresistible menu of Middle Eastern dips, kebabs, and more. Family-style “picnic platters” of beef ribs or chicken are a specialty.

In Paris at the age of 22, Gilles Epié became the youngest chef ever to win a Michelin star, and he hasn’t stopped since. Now he’s in D.C. — by way of L.A., Paris (again), and Hawaii — and applying his considerable skills to an ingredient-based modern French menu at this stylish Georgetown destination, backed by the team from L’Annexe, just next door.

Did somebody say currywurst, schnitzel, sauerbraten, and a dozen German beers on tap? That’s the ticket at this Mount Vernon Square beer hall from restaurateur Eric Heidenberger (of Shaw’s Tavern and The Madhatter). Pro tip: If you’re serious about the beer, don’t miss “Ein Meter bitte!” — a meter-long tray with small samples of 10 different brews.

A breezy grab-and-go café for breakfast and lunch, a wine shop, and (most of all) a full-service bar and restaurant from the group behind Ellē in the Western Market food hall? Absolutely. Get ready for a menu featuring in-house baked goods, small plates and sandwiches, and even a signature pickled vegetable pizza.

You’ll want to become a regular at this beachy two-level place on Dupont Circle, where the menu evokes a casual European/Hawaiian/Mexican vibe and the downstairs speakeasy is dedicated to the memory of Patrick Swayze — a favorite of proprietor Eric Heidenberger (of Shaw’s Tavern and 801).

Glittery chandeliers and candelabrae flickering off the windows, family portraits on the walls, and tables laden with meat and cheese platters, heaping bowls of pasta, and hand-tossed thin-crust pizzas with a symphony of toppings — that’s the draw at this Midtown Center delight from Michelin-starred chef Gerald Addison (of Maydān and Little Chicken).

Don’t miss this wine bar hidden away inside Mae’s Market and Café in Alexandria, chef Nicole Jones’ popular specialty food shop and eatery. The follow-the-seasons food here is delicious, the staff makes you feel like you’re hanging with friends, and the excellent wines come mostly from female winemakers.

For a taste (actually, many tastes) of the seductive multi-cultural cuisine of Singapore — where China, India, Indonesia, and Malaysia meet in the kitchen and at the hawker stands — look no further than this vibrant seafood-heavy spot in Tysons Galleria, from well-traveled Malaysian chef Rashidin “Mamu” Bin Abd Rashid.

You won’t want to miss this sleek but comfortable neighborhood wine-lovers’ destination — a retail shop plus bar and café with an eclectic array of bottles, Saturday and Sunday tastings, and a yes-please menu (mac ‘n’ cheese croquettes are a standby) from chef Adam Hoffa, a veteran of Fiola.

When the old executive chef at José Andrés’ minibar turns his attention to the Basque country’s late-night food scene, you pay attention. And such is the case with Bar Spero, a neon-lit and boisterous downtown hotspot, where chef-owner Johnny Spero of Reverie fame delves into seafood-forward tapas and preparations over a live-fire hearth.

Calling all seafood lovers: You definitely won’t want to miss this fish- and shellfish-focused Chevy Chase spot, with its open kitchen built around a wood-fired grill, from the folks behind Nina May. If you’re not piscatorially inclined, don’t worry: there are plenty of excellent meat and vegetable options, too.

Because sometimes, you just want a red table tray piled high with steamed crabs. Thankfully, this outdoors gem delivers. Expect crabs from local purveyors (expertly seasoned with a riff on Old Bay), cocktails, wines, and crushes, courtesy of the team behind Duke’s Grocery and Gogi Yogi.

One look at the menu and you might think you’re in New Orleans. This easygoing Silver Spring destination from the Miskiri Hospitality Group (Po Boy Jim, Creole on 14th) has all of the essentials, after all — barbecue shrimp, gumbo, jambalaya, po’ boys, and more — and the NOLA-inspired cocktails definitely get the good times rolling.

You’ll want a seat with a view at this maritime-chic Navy Yard dinner house in the Thompson Hotel, where the food is traditional East Coast-American and the classic cocktails are as good as they come.

Because the reincarnation of Masoud Aboughaddareh’s original Lima is one buzzy spot, courtesy of a pan-Latino menu, high-end cocktails, and premium bottle service, all wrapped up in an elegant industrial-posh interior.

Because Bottles Wine Garden is a gem of an indoor-outdoor hideaway in the East End, where sommelier and owner Erika Parjus (ex-Centrolina) curates one heck of a wine list, with special attention to female winemakers and owners. A small but perfect menu of wine-friendly snacks rounds it all.
