If it were up to Sarah Grueneberg, the chef-owner at West Loop’s Monteverde Restaurant & Pastificio, gender would never be mentioned in the kitchen.
“I’m a fan of just being called a chef,” says Grueneberg. “I don’t like having the gender label attached to it, and I hope we continue this practice as we move forward into the next decade.”
Grueneberg is hosting a dinner at Monteverde paying tribute to the family matriarchs that shaped her life, as part of Resy’s Women of Food global dinner series.
At its core, the series believes that behind every great restaurant is a woman — and these trailblazing women-owned restaurants are testament to that.
