New on Resy: The NoMad, Frenchette, Coco Pazzo, and More

Chef Daniel Humm and restaurateur Will Guidara’s casually-elegant restaurant inside The NoMad Hotel is rooted in the same ethos that can be found at their critically acclaimed, three-Michelin-star restaurant, Eleven Madison Park. The NoMad’s menu is inspired by the chef’s time spent throughout Switzerland, California, and New York City — its signature dish is the whole-roasted chicken for two, which is stuffed with foie gras, black truffle, and brioche with pomme purée & baby leeks, and served bursting with a bouquet of fresh herbs. Other staples include an artful crudité served with chive cream; suckling pig confit with seckel pears, chicory, and pancetta; and milk & honey dessert with shortbread, brittle, and ice cream. Enjoy it all in one of several rooms that surround a stunning glass-enclosed atrium.

Equal parts cocktail destination and contemporary pub, the NoMad Bar is located adjacent to The NoMad (under the same roof). Dishes are crafted in the style of The NoMad and Eleven Madison Park, but stripped down — think chicken liver mousse with pickles and miche toast, an exquisite burger, and the Humm dog (bacon-wrapped with black truffle and celery). The atmosphere is decidedly swanky, with dim lighting, emerald banquettes, and a very well-stocked bar that leans against a soaring mirror.

Seasoned chefs Riad Nasr and Lee Hanson first met in the kitchen at Daniel and then spent years running ship at a slew of Keith McNally joints (Balthazar, Minetta Tavern, Pastis, Schiller’s Liquor Bar). Frenchette is all theirs, and it is housed in the TriBeCa space formerly home to Cercle Rouge. As you’d expect, given their expertise, the restaurant is a bistro — but they are veering away from traditional origins, instead taking inspiration from the Parisian bistronomy movement with a menu that’s a bit more experimental, a natural-leaning wine program (from Contra/Wildair alum Jorge Riera), and bare-bones décor. Dishes to get excited about include snails with scrambled eggs, whole lobster with curry beurre fondue, and duck-frites.

And just like that, beloved Coco Pazzo is back. Pino Luongo had always hoped to revive his trendsetting UES trattoria. Ten years on, the dream is alive in the heart of SoHo. Now, Coco Pazzo operates as a fast-casual concept during the day, and full-scale Tuscan restaurant at night.  Expect antipasti di mare, insalate, dishes “per la tavola” (to share), and piatto unico — one-plate meals that combine the pasta course with braised meats, poultry, and seafood.

The Loyal is chef and restaurateur John Fraser’s sophisticated West Village brasserie that’s inspired by his love of the American tavern. Chef to Narcissa, Narcbar and two Michelin-starred restaurants, Dovetail and Nix, Fraser’s menu here is unique in that it’s built for comfort. Dishes like beet salad with Bulgarian feta and pistachios; squid ink spaghetti with Jonah crab and fennel breadcrumbs; and the Piedmontese burger with comte, 22-step tomato, and duck fat tots are grounded in his trademark technique. Pro-tip: come late-night for the giant fried chicken sandwich, which is served on King’s Hawaiian sweet rolls and is available from 10:30PM to close.

Seamore’s is a seafood restaurant from Michael Chernow, the man behind The Meatball Shop. As to be expected, the concept is on-point — enjoy a health-focused menu of seafood classics like poke, fish tacos, and po’ boys served in a space that’s light and bright. With two locations — in Nolita and Chelsea — this opening marks Seamore’s Brooklyn debut.

New York City kitchen veterans Jacques Belanger and Lev Gewirtzman opened Mayfield the day after Hurricane Sandy hit and subsequently fed the neighborhood. Since then, it’s been a Crown Heights staple, churning out comfort-driven fare like fried oysters, burgers, and hand-rolled ricotta gnocchi. Whether you come for brunch or dinner, the delicious food and great service always satisfy.

Frequently touted for its exceptional brunch offerings (extraordinarily fluffy pancakes, a buttermilk biscuit sandwich, and fresh-made pies), Clinton St. Baking Co boasts a dinner menu that’s sure to please as well. Visit this Lower East Side mainstay for Southern-inspired specialties, like hot shrimp cocktail, fried chicken, and, if you’re so inclined, breakfast for dinner.

Harry’s is a classic New York steakhouse, with a scene that’s bustling from lunchtime to dinner. The menu offers USDA prime steaks cut in-house, an impressive and affordable wine list, an expansive whiskey selection, and all kinds of cocktails. Located down in FiDi on the lower tip of Manhattan, it’s thoroughly old-school; as the proprietors put it: “if our walls could talk, they could reveal 40 years worth of trade secrets.”

Tucked away in the Theater District, ViceVersa is somewhat of a hidden secret. However, it’s the perfect spot to enjoy a meal before or after Broadway. Chef Stefano Terzi specializes in fresh-made pasta, like trozzapreti with slow-roasted duck ragout and tonnarelli cacio e pepe. All wines are produced locally or imported from Italy, and guests can enjoy a pre-dinner aperitivo in the bar-lounge – or a smooth after-dinner drink.

Italian with a bit of Spanish influence, too, Vinateria is a charming neighborhood restaurant on Frederick Douglass Blvd. Cult favorites like rosemary pappardelle with lamb ragu and fresh ricotta and spicy veal meatballs with parmesan polenta attract a loyal clientele of Harlem locals and visitors alike. The acclaimed wine list is full of selections from small producers and accessible finds, while the cocktail program makes use of house-made tinctures, seasonal produce, and fresh-grown herbs from the restaurant’s own garden. Finally, a large seasonal, outdoor patio wraps around the corner restaurant and seats 40
